I learned about an interesting math template that was used in Ms. Collins math class that allowed students to create their own math problems. Ms. Collins had a rubric attached to it so that students could see exactly what they were being grade on. Even though she used the template for math, it was easy to see how it could be applied across other subjects.

How come there is no hard tardy policy? Especially during first period. I think that is something that we should look at.

I think we can all agree our current model where it is working in certain situations, has room for growth and improvement. A few suggestions came were brought up today,
Saturday Detention:
After School Detention:
In School Suspension:
Now I am new to the district and I have little to no understanding of its workings. I do understand that local schools to me have and utilize these things. Are they viable options, if so what do they look like in getting them started? Our current method, is to hope our corrective action takes hold (steps 1 and 2) contact the parent (step 3) then to write a referral (step 4). But this method has some major loop holes, if the parent is not available, then we have lost a step for corrective action. If our only response is to throw a student out of school once we have reached the referral stage then I fear shortly if I adhere to this policy my 26 freshman students per class will be around 12-13 on a daily basis. So there has to be another option or something that we can implement or put into place. Because the threat of suspension is in many cases not by any means a punishment in the students eyes.

I learned how to set up collaborative learning and provide strong examples before you throw them into a situation for group work. I learned that I should try and implement more differentiation into my GRID- thanks GRID group!! I would like to learn more about designing assessments and learn more about how ISS could potentially help our school.
I learned about Break Out rooms! Over at CH. And I was able to connect with some other Bio teachers and pick their brain- a question I had for them was can you share your material with me and they said YES! Simply bc we got KK as our principal... Christmas came early for me. Thanks Santa KK for your positive presence across the district.
