La seule façon d'en sortir était qu'un autre animal fasse office de contre-balancier. Il réussit à convaincre le loup, lui aussi affamé, qui passait par là.

Le loup le croit et attend. Au final le chien lui avait menti et était toujours aussi maigre, de plus il se servit du portier du logis pour faire fuir le loup.
Dans cette fable se trouve une référence à une fable déjà existante, celle du petit poisson et du pêcheur puisque les histoires sont très similaires mais n'ont pas la même finalité.

Le glouton de loup avait entendu leur conversation et tenta de rentrer grâce à ces mots mais il en oublia une partie.
