         <description><![CDATA[<div>I will be speaking from the perspective of a high school administrator overseeing the athletic department.&nbsp; It is important for all school administration and personnel to be aware of all areas of risk and possible negligence that could occur throughout the campus and district.&nbsp; It is our jobs to have a proper risk management plan and make all employees aware it and be properly trained.<br><br>&nbsp;"The Christopher High School RMP plan will have procedures and policies set in place to identify these risks, have layers of protection to control the risks, and management to monitor and control these risks from occurring to reduce the chance of liability."          <description><![CDATA[<div>My interview was with&nbsp; current high school Athletic Director at Midland Greenwood, Rusty Purser.&nbsp; We discussed the fact that sports safety, especially facility safety, is a vital part of what Administrators do and are responsible for.&nbsp; When it comes to safety and risk management in sports we must always ensure that we provide a safe infrastructure for participants first and foremost.&nbsp; He discussed that after this step, that proper training and continuing education for all coaches must be implemented.&nbsp; <br><br>Best Practices:<br>* Be aware of any and all facilities and facility rules.<br>* Have a good understanding knowledge of your surroundings and any dangers that could possibly occur.<br>* Prepare staff and students on any and all procedures and rules.<br><br>We are responsible for all and must provide safety and shall not " deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." Athletics is a big business and is very popular amongst young people.  But risking personal and occupational safety in order to be successful is a fine line that all athletes must cross or not.  It is the responsibility of the supervisors or coaches to help athletes understand these consequences and make the appropriate decisions.</div>]]></description>

(229 A.D.2d 214,lv denied 90 N.Y.2d 805<br><br>In this case the student chose to engage in a non-related activity and was injured while not under the coach's supervision.  Since the student knew the risks and was injured doing something that was not related to the sport, the courts dismissed the case.</div>]]></description>
