Brett:
From his perspective, he looked at it as merging two different worlds. It was a slow moving emergency. Merging how they handled emergencies in the private sector with the public sector was different. Their biggest challenge was to bridge the gap between slowing the motion down and trying not to make fear based decisions.
John:
The biggest thing as a group was being able to share information on the fly about what was happening on the ground level. It was nice to be able to speak with others in the community to figure out where they were headed and pulling resources from others from different sectors. They were able to talk through issues they had early on. Getting those answers from people in other organizations was a relief.

Brett:
Panic mode set in in the beginning. They needed a clear delineation of roles. Doing that in the private sector, where that had not happened, was a challenge.
Bud:
He does not believe there is an appetite for that kind of change (NIMS wise). It is a challenge to implement things from the public sector to the private sector. Daily calls, and key leadership briefings was helpful. Facing the unknown when properties were closing, people were being laid off, etc.

Brett:
They had advance notice of closing. They were tracking the numbers as it was coming into the US so they knew they would be closing. There were no closing plans in place so they put one in place since they knew in advance. He is unsure of this was the case for other properties.
Bud:
They had a heads up that this was happening in their other overseas properties. They had a 7 day window to have security to ramp up plans before they started closing. Having direct access to close friends and allies in the emergency management office gave them ideas for closing procedures and other processes.

Brett:
There is a long list of shortfalls. The mentality from the executive level was that the crisis is over just because they have reopened.
Bud:
Once they had the furloughs and the layoff, it has been a slow grind trying to rehire and trying to get people to come back to work. Workload for the current employees is growing.
John Tansley:
The communication to the people that were furloughed was lacking. People were not returning calls and it led to a lack in the workforce.

Misty:
This group is a best practice. The partnerships that they had in the community are well developed and they would not have been able to get through the pandemic without their partners in the resort corridor. It was easy for them to slip into the group, and working with this group has been a best practice (From public sector perspective)
Bud:
Working from home has also helped out a lot. Policies and procedures were implemented that allowed employees to work from home and it allows employees to transition back to home if needed.
He also believe that the sharing of information with partners was a best practice.
Laurie:
Bringing in subject matter experts to help them learn was another great asset.
They set up vaccine clinics in the unused ballrooms and open spaces in the resorts to help administer vaccines to the public.

John:
They have stayed flexible and open. For example, being able to get on a call to share and communicate and collaborate as they evolve through the pandemic.
The pandemic has allowed them to become the cohesive group that they currently are.
Laurie:
Some shortfalls were that the CDC said masks were not needed if they were vaccinated. It created an awkward situation for all to decide if they wanted to wear the masks or not.
The testing is not being utilized as it should be, so the numbers of positive cases are not accurate.
Misty:
The health district was supportive of the decisions made. Appreciate of this group for pushing for enforcing masks.
John:
The mandates have been enforced even through public backlash and issues.
Brett:
Violent crime was out of control on the strip initially on all properties across the strip. They had to deal with that and also try to stay in business and make money.
Lori:
Wants to thank everyone who has been in since day one, but especially John. This group has been beneficial for both the pandemic and other issues as well.
