I would have loved to choose this as my inspiration for my project however because of the lack of time there was to do this project, I wasn’t able to as there would have been stuff I’d like to do to recreate Shinoda’s style of work into my own practise. Such as the scenic cinematic he had took, I’d need to go travel somewhere and need more than a week to do so. I’d also need to borrow a camera that could also capture the same time of aesthetic.

After a heavy 5 minute contemplation on what I could do with my art project, I have chose to go with this type of art style as I am used to being more skilled with illustrative sketches. Also, I’m more fond of drawing cartoony/whimsical styles of characters. However, I was keen on doing a small animation for the outcome, but because of the deadline there isn’t a lot of time to do it, so I made ends by presenting my character design, who I made look like me, with practically the same style as Patrick McHale’s.

Originally this was supposed to be a 60 second video of the clip moving as I wanted hello kitty to wave her hand and scrunch her nose which I had done. Unfortunately, because of the lack of saving I didn’t do on One Drive I had ended up corrupting some of the files and ended up loosing important parts in the video which ruined it. Overall, I was not able to do everything on time and had to manage and make do with a super short clip of 3 seconds and upload that instead.

Needless to say, I did enjoy learning how to use premiere pro and just a bit more practise with using photoshop.

It was more of a struggle with premier pro as I wasn’t used to all the features and tools of it and I’m very used to using an app called Capcut but it was still worth the shot of trying it out.

Maybe I’ll use it again in the future for other upcoming work but I may just stick to using what I find easier.

Indie rock is a prominent subgenre of music that is prominent and originated in the united kingdom, united states and new Zealand in the mid 1980's. the term was originally coined to describe rock music that was released under an independent record label but was quickly more generalised and by the 1990's it became more widely associated with the music such bands produced.

The band that we are collaborating with for this project, called 'STRIDE' describes themselves with this subgenre and utilises many of it elements and themes. When asked, the drummer of the band Jack Dooley said; "I would say old fashioned indie rock with elements of a punk vibe in some songs." We are using their song 'Dog on a Bone'.

The term indie rock, which comes from "independent", describes the small and relatively low-budget record labels (or the lack of one) on which it is released and the 'do it yourself' attitude of the bands and artists involved.

The song that my group has a chosen was ‘Dog on A Bone’ by STRIDE, this was suggested by a person from the group who is related with someone in the band.

The song it self is decent as I could see why another indie lover would listen to it but however this wasn’t mine or another person in the group’s music taste and I wasn’t able to give much input as I had been absent in that following week so I didn’t want to be a burden and make a last minute switch because of my opinion. But I do feel that there was not much of a opinionated decision to make as the guy who suggested this song was related to the band member and it was that moral reasoning decision of giving a negative opinion towards the song would be insulting to my group partner who had chosen the song.

The main reason I wasn’t as fond as the song as everyone else, was because I couldn’t see any vision of what kind of music video being created except for a montage video of a concert which was out of my reach because I do more of drawing/animation than actually shooting and creating videos.

I went for a completely different style and tried out something new, a rough idea. Sort of inspiration from the music video ‘Take on Me’ as the idea of like the real life jumping into a 2D surface which piqued my interest quite a bit.

This was a completely last minute new concept, hence why it isn’t finished. It was also because of lack of time but also equipment, I had done this on my iPad, using the app FlipaClip and I don’t think my iPad was able to handle such a large video clip so there weren’t as much storage, and there were few complications on FlipaClip as some of the frames began to disappear.

However, once again, I think that this was truly a fun practise to experiment with, I’m still learning new stuff and new tools to enhance my art work in the future.

What worked well was how the outline of the body was all slowly able to join together and even though they were squiggly, I believe it gave some depth to the animation for the music video.

Even though the experimentation went quite well, there wasn’t enough time to check it out or edit into the video by the photography students.

Personally, I do think there would have been enough time if they had also sent the video earlier that they agreed to do but the final piece was officially made so there wasn’t time for any new adjustments.

Next time, I’ll try to improve on more of my animation idea and maybe discuss this experiment frequently instead of my ideas being drowned out.

In my recent project with photography students, I approached the experience with an open mindset and excited to explore a new medium and learn from my peers. This was my first encounter of a project with other people, and I was intrigued by the concept of creating a music video.

Upon our initial meeting, I discovered that the group had previously discussed ideas during my absence. They had already begun discussions about the direction of the music video, which piqued my interest. However, I quickly realized that the project was predominantly photography-based, limiting my ability to showcase my skills in graphic design and illustration. This realisation sparked a moment of frustration, as I thought that I would not be able to contribute as much to the project. Nevertheless, I spoke out my concerns and was reassured that there would be opportunities to incorporate our individual skills, particularly those influenced by artist research.

As the project progressed, we began to seperate the roles among ourselves. We decided to divide the lyrics into sections, assigning each member specific parts to develop. It was during this phase that I had a moment where I found myself contemplating the merits of working independently. The idea of having complete control over my creative vision was appealing, yet I recognised the importance of collaboration in enhancing the final product and ensuring that all team members felt valued and satisfied with the outcome.

Throughout the project, I developed new skills, particularly in animation. I experimented with an app called Flipaclip, which allowed me to create animations and overlay them onto the footage produced by the photography students. This experience introduced me to new concepts, such as frames per second (fps) and techniques for simplifying the animation process by utilising frames effectively. These skills were a significant takeaway from the project, as they expanded my technical capabilities and understanding of animation.

In terms of collaboration, I believe I contributed positively by expressing my opinions and maintaining a civil manner with my peers. However, I also felt that I could have been more assertive in voicing my thoughts and concerns. There were moments when I hesitated to speak up about aspects of the project that I found unsatisfactory, thinking it might disrupt the flow of our collaboration. Unfortunately, this led to a sense of frustration, as certain decisions were made without consulting the entire group, leaving me feeling as though my input was drowned out.

Reflecting on the overall success of the project, I must admit that I have a mixed perspective. While I was disappointed with the final outcome of the video, I recognise that my animation skills improved significantly throughout the process. This growth limited in the context of the project, stands as a personal achievement. Moving forward, I aim to refine my collaboration skills further, ensuring that I communicate my thoughts more effectively and contribute to a more cohesive group dynamic.

In conclusion, this collaborative experience has given several areas for personal growth. I am eager to explore pathways that will allow me to enhance my skills and become a more effective team player. My goal is to learn from this experience, making sure that I approach future projects with greater confidence in sharing my ideas and supporting the collective vision of the group. By doing so, I hope to contribute more meaningfully to collaborative projects and develop a positive creative environment for all involved.
