AI Integration

I chose this trend for two reasons

It is a strategic topic for our organisation at an exec and Board level

The adoption of AI across all business and society is rapid and impactful. AI is revolutionising how organisations work and is something that will differentiate how organisations perform.

We can prepare for it by:

Exploring it and learning more about it as seeing implementation as an opportunity and not something to be feared

Be well informed by consulting with experts in the field and learning what fits in the context of our organisation

Create an organisational position on AI and how it is applied across the business including how risks are managed

Potential risk if ignored

The organisation misses an opportunity to improve outputs and outcomes

There is a potential to be left behind by other competitors who are adopting the use of AI to improve efficiency and reducing corporate costs

The organisation can be seen by the sector and employees as risk adverse and not innovative. This may lead to talent loss from within and reputational impact internally and externally

I chose this trend because data security is so important to every organisation and it's an area that is constantly evolving. Like the development of AI, it's an issue that has huge impact but has no physical presence.

We can prepare for challenges in this space by:

having proactive and reactive policies in place

keeping up with the latest trends and consulting industry experts

The potential risks:

Failure to protect personal data - regulatory breaches and financial penalties

Failure to protect Intellectual Property - reputational risk and financial loss

This trend is under constant changes due to changes in policy, government and societal needs. The trend at the moment is to transition into a fee-for-service model rather than block funding

We can prepare for this challenge by remaining innovative in the services we offer and agile enough to be able to facilitate service delivery in a fee for service space as well as block funding. This is by having mechanisms in place to bill for servicing, as well has having clear ideas of breakeven organisational costs to ensure profitability.

Risk of inactions will be loss of programs (therefore decreased workforce), as well as lack of services available to people in need in our region

AI‑Driven Identity & Document Fraud in the Higher Education / University space

Emerging Trend: AI‑Driven Identity & Document Fraud

Why I chose this trend

Working in consulting capacity for program delivery within a Sydney‑based university, I’m already seeing how AI is reshaping identity, enrolment, and integrity processes. This trend directly impacts how I consider, design and implement governance frameworks, deliver projects, and support operational uplift — especially in areas like admissions, digital identity, assessment integrity, and student lifecycle systems. If our programs don’t anticipate AI‑enabled fraud, we risk building solutions that are outdated the moment they launch.

Why this trend matters

AI makes it easy to create synthetic identities, forged documents, and deepfake submissions. Universities — with open systems and high‑value data — are becoming prime targets.

How governance can prepare

Build AI‑aware cyber, privacy, admissions, and academic integrity policies.

Strengthen identity verification (multi‑layered checks, behavioural analytics).

Centralise cyber/privacy oversight to reduce fragmentation.

Update fraud and integrity policies to include AI‑enabled threats.

Risks if ignored

Financial losses from synthetic enrolments and fraudulent aid.

Erosion of trust in admissions, assessment, and credentialing.

Higher likelihood of data breaches and extortion.

Governance gaps leading to compliance failures and reputational damage.
