The presentation talked about what it can look like sonographically and how it differs from gastroschesis. We also were given information about lab values that might be affected with the mother and how it can indicate an abdominal wall defect. It was also shared that there were different types of omphaloceles that contain different internal organs and what that means for the outcome of the fetus. We started out with a powerpoint showing different images of dandy walkers that were imaged by sonographers in the LVHN and their initial thoughts when they discovered what they were looking at. It was a very eye-opening experience because as a sonographer it can be hard to with-hold information from the patient but it's best for experts like perinatologists to explain it all to the patient.
