The educators are kind and supportive, and with half the course consisting of working on a project in the lab, which is open 24/7, makes this course stressfree and cozy. Low ontheory, high on practicality, that's how an engineer should be educated!

It's been a surprisingly rewarding experience. This subject is about understanding and developing a mechatronics project from bottom to top. You start by decomposing the entire problem in smaller modules, and you design (most) of the electronics from scratch, you build it and you program it. I am not gonna lie, there's a lot DIY. That means that a lot of the things you will learn you will need to do it but yourself. Sometimes you may even feel that you need more guidance, but it's alright. The truth is that you end up learning a lot in this project, not only how an AVR works, both externally and internally, but also how to debug and decompose simpleish electronic circuits, how to deal with delays, frequency problems and communication. I would recommend this subject to anyone interested in the world of mechatronics for sure.

EIEF01 Applied Mechatronics was one of the best courses I studied at LTH. The course is made of 2 parts: industrial project and individual project.

In the part with the industrial project you work with a team of some students. Then you get a project development problem from some company and you try to work out a general concept of how to solve in the best way. This part was really interesting.

In the individual project you build a system that controls the speed of a DC-motor. In my opinion this was the best and most interesting part. You start from zero and nothing, then piece by piece you construct, try out and put your system together. You get drawing to some circuit boards and some you have to design by yourself and later try it. In the beginning it was a little difficult for me to understand how all diffrent parts will work together, but it became clear later.
My best advice to pass on this part is to start buildning and testing things not too late. Most likely there will be problems and it can take more time then you first think to find and solve them. And don't be afraid of asking other students in the lab, I got a lot of help with different things from others. Lab supervisors are also very nice and helpful.
The practical exam was a good change to all the written examination that we have otherwise. If you built your system by yourself and understand all the programming you did, the exam will not be a problem in any way.

So this was a wonderful course where you learn a lot of useful things. If you want to join a course where you get to design, build and test things, I definitly recomend this one

The individual project is super fun if you make sure to start in time and keep up with the deadlines, so much easier to have someone to ask about it!

One of the best course you could possibly take in LTH. If you're an Electrical engineer student this course is a consolidation of many things you've learned in your first three years in LTH: Electronics, programming, control system and hand on laboratory skills. After the course you'll feel like an engineer that can create things instead of you've been wasting the best three years of your life on pointless math and theoretical stuff;)

However don't expect a walk in the park. The lab crew were super super helpful however due to high attendence and limited scheduled labtime you won't get your hands held but have to figure lots of things on your own. And alot of things can go wrong. The embedded programming was tough and wasn't covered in any basic course at least for electrical engineer students. C is a tough language to learn for beginners aswell and the lectures in the course covering it were hard to follow.

My advice is to finish the milestones as soon as possible and make sure the things you make works. The debugging and coding will take alot of time and energy later and due to the complexity of the software+hardware system you won't be able to solve the problem if being stressed at the end.

That's a really rewarding and hands-on course in which you understand how to apply some of the theoritical stuff you've learned (controll for example). You also get a good understanding of what is hidden behind an arduino. If you're sick of theoritical courses and want something more applied you should definitely take it.
The industrial part was interesting as well evenso I felt like we didn't get that far in the project.
Even so Fran looks a bit impressive he doesn't bite.
