Hi everyone

Teaching around 30 hrs. a week I had to create my time management techniques that suit me to save time and preserve my well-being. The time management is divided into two parts, one related to my preparation and the other for the students. First, I prepare an annual plan that includes weekly distribution of lessons which I try my best to stay on track.

2nd I prepare the list of warm-up activities, pair think, share, and group activities during the weekends before I start working in detail on the daily lesson plan.

3 I do not hesitate to collaborate with colleagues to share resources or divide the tasks among us especially if we were teaching different sections of the same class.

4th I usually put all the material needed, files, and books in one backpack and I have it always with me in case I need any document I have direct access to it and don’t waste time

5th I pre-download all the videos, and documentaries needed before going to school in case I face internet connectivity issues

6th: more importantly, I make sure to make my students involved in helping me such as in distributing the material (paper, scissors, glue), and collecting the assignment.

Finally, I resort to prioritizing.

Hence following these steps help me save a lot of time and reduce the pressure

I also, make sure I grade important and urgent assignments and leave the less important and less urgent for students to grade by themselves. It helps me not to be overwhelmed with work.

Thanks

Here are some time management strategies :

Prioritization and Planning

Create a Master Schedule: Outline your entire school year, including lesson plans, assessments, and due dates.

Weekly Planning: Break down your master schedule into weekly plans, focusing on specific tasks and goals.

Daily To-Do Lists: Prioritize tasks for each day, considering urgency and importance.

Time Management Techniques

Time Blocking: Allocate specific time blocks for different tasks, such as lesson planning, grading, and student conferences.

Pomodoro Technique: Work in focused 25-minute intervals followed by short breaks.

Eat the Frog: Tackle the most challenging or time-consuming task first thing in the morning.

Hello everyone! To manage my time better, I always use a physical agenda—a habit I picked up years ago. While some prefer virtual agendas on their phones, I find writing things down by hand more effective and relaxing. On the first two days of the week, I spend my mornings creating materials, then I teach my classes. The rest of the week, I focus solely on teaching. I work virtually and teach in-person classes only twice a month. Once I've completed a task, I check it off or draw a line through it.

Working from home means I need to be disciplined and organized, staying focused all the time. When I have a tough week and feel stressed, I practice exercises like stopping to take deep breaths or taking a 10-minute break to do something different before getting back to work.

I strive to adhere to this plan; however, I may shorten or adjust an activity if it appears to be taking too much time. It helped me to keep to follow. of course I have a google calendar with important dates of work. But I prefer, my notebook is always with me and if I finish doing my things I crossed out and marked. Sometimes If I can not do somethings I move to next day with some essential files and links. This things made me relaxed and distressful. If I have a certain schedule I am always ready to work happily.

Hello everyone, I think I'm not good at time management, so I usually find myself stressed or worn out during the semester. Recently, I heard one colleague sharing one technique: using Google Calendar to book events for myself. As for the regular classes and meetings, I can make appointments to do the "assignment grading", "joining activities of my interest", or "learning how to cook" on a 30-minute basis. After 30 minutes, I have to jump to another event. It's like Pomodoro Technique that makes to-do things clear and do those things efficiently.

Hello everyone, I have a busy schedule , our classes last 1 hour 45 minutes and then I have a 15-minute-break in between and I change course (different level, students, book, everything changes) I have to use the breaks to get ready for the following class. We change classrooms too. We are 8 hours in front of students, so we need to plan and prepare classes at home. Even our meetings are outside our school schedule. So I hope to learn and start a positive change in my life after this course. My piece of advice is to be organized. Using LIFE PLANNERS and TO-DO-LISTS really work. The advantage of these kinds of organizers can help you keep a healthy life/work balance.

I use the Pomodoro technique in my classroom for time management. I start by dividing the lesson into short, focused intervals called 'Pomodoros,' typically 25 minutes each. During each Pomodoro, students concentrate on a specific task or activity. After the timer goes off, we take a short 5-minute break to relax and recharge. After completing four Pomodoros, we take a longer break, usually 15-20 minutes. This method helps maintain student engagement and productivity while also providing regular breaks to prevent burnout. It has been highly effective in keeping the class focused and managing our time efficiently.

I've discovered some time management techniques that are helpful. Every weekend evening, I plan my week. I outline major tasks, lesson plans, and deadlines. This gives me a clear overview and helps me prioritize. Additionally, I try to prepare materials for multiple lessons at once when I have free time. This approach is an effective time-saver. To avoid procrastination, I've adopted a 'do it now' mindset. If I can tackle a task right away, I jump on it instead of adding it to my to-do list.

Hi everyone, this is Meng from Chongqing, China.

This is a good topic for me to reflect on my time management skills. I teach 18 periods of classes each week, 2 or 4 of which usually all happen on a morning or an afternoon. In this way, the other half of the day or the free time before the next teaching day can be my lesson planning time, grading time and interpersonal time, etc. I don't really struggle with the must-finish tasks such as grading, lesson planning, material preparing. However, when it comes to communicating with students and parents outside class, there is indeed no time limit and you could always put in more time or efforts. Therefore, if its academic questions, I ask my students to resort to peer assistance. If students need advice or are facing great stress or having issues they can't solve themselves, I either fit a private conversation into my schedule, or ask them to write me a short letter to state their problems and reply to them when my time permits. The same goes to my communication with parents.

Anyhow, I think I will apply the skills mentioned here, such as the pomodoro technique and keeping a time audit, to improve my efficiency at work and promote my own wellbeing.

First planning step is to make a plan for the whole school year and USE it by adding some remarks for me, myself during the year. Next, I never prepare for one lesson, I prepare for weekly 3 lessons (usually this is number of lessons per class per week). That works for me. Having the whole picture of the week reduces stress greatly and provides clarity and calmness during the week.

I often struggle with managing my time. I try to keep a regular practice of writing down what I need to do each day in a daily planner. This helps me organize my tasks, but sometimes unexpected things come up that need my attention. When this happens, I often forget about other important tasks I had already written down. This makes it hard to stick to my plan.

I want to try doing a time audit to see if it helps me manage my time better. I hope that by understanding how I spend my time, I can improve my time management skills.

Hi, I'm Monica from Malaysia. A technique for managing my time that works well for me is Eisenhower Matrix. This technique helps prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, while delegating or postponing less critical tasks. I can focus my energy on high-priority tasks, reduce stress, and prevent unnecessary distractions. It helps me work smarter, not harder, by clarifying what requires me immediate attention and what can be delegated or postponed.
