I'm very grateful for my students! They bring a lot of joy and make me laugh all the time. I'm constantly learning from them and their creativity.

I am grateful for Ana because she balances me out when we are at work. She understands my jokes and teaches me so many things. I'm so lucky to have her not only as a friend but also a coworker. She inspires me everyday.

I am grateful for my cat because even though he is rude sometimes, he makes me smile no matter what. I can always count on him being goofy when I come home from a hard/long day.

Having the opportunity to learn from my mistakes or developing my methods of interactions with youth.
2. being able to provide comfort and stability to my students who have been struggling with change (pandemic, teachers taking time off, Etc).
3. Working at a sight that is so community oriented. It really feels like everyone is equally important, and everyone is working together to make this weird school year work!

1) I'm grateful for my team - Emily, Ana, Karla, Shelby, Nesley, and Michelle - for listening to me and giving me advice when I've struggled with communicating my needs and felt confused about my performance as a tutor.
2) I'm grateful for my family, friends, and GF. They help me unwind when I feel like a clumped up ball of wet paper. Moving from damp, stuck together, and droopy to laid out, soft, and fresh.
3) I'm grateful for being aware. Being aware of my habits that aren't helping and the knowledge to experiment with tackling it in better ways. Even though it feels uncomfortable, I feel like I'm heading in the right direction. Even if I'll get lost again, I know that it'll all be ok :)

I am grateful for:
-the relationships I'm building with my students. This week they wrote letters of gratitude to me and the other tutors, which were incredibly sweet and it felt rewarding especially in the face of recent challenges working with students. They always make me laugh and keep me on my toes--one student ended his letter "bring more goldfish to 826"
-my amazing coworkers who make me feel seen and supported, and have so much wisdom to impart
-one of our teacher partners who gave us chocolate this week!

I'm grateful for the incredible team at my service site (826 Tenderloin), both my fellow Americorps members and the other staff. They are a paragon of support, welcoming, commitment and service. I don't think this job would be half as tolerable/enjoyable without them.

I'm grateful for the opportunity at 826 to do an individual (or pair) learning project, which I'm almost embarassingly excited about.

I'm grateful for the students and community we serve on my team. I hadn't spent a lot of time in the Tenderloin prior to this job and despite all its problems, it's such a rich and vibrant community with a lot of amazing people and I feel lucky to be a part of it, even temporarily.

AmeriCorps wasn't a premeditated/planned choice for me. I was in a crisis situation and had to do something to move forward. I was burned out from 20 years of teaching in environments that crushed my spirit and left me a broken, and wounded. I swore that I would NEVER teach EVER... and yet here I am, in a "school adjacent environment."

I am grateful for this experience and all that it entails. Between BAYAC trainings and the core values of 826, I am able to continue the work that I started in my thesis on mental health. So many of the themes in my paper are present in various aspects of this season. I'm getting to share liberally with an eye for change.

My Site Supervisor is awesome. My team makes me feel like I'm really a part of what's happening here. The kids are giving me opportunities to get in touch with the educator, woman, and human being that I strive to be when I'm not hindered by factors that created barriers for me in the past.

Three things?? I can't just whittle it down to three. I'm grateful for ALL things, even the difficult things because they are all contributing to my growth. And as I grow, I am able to help others grow by pursuing their best selves.
