1. I like the teacher's way of encouraging Vashti with positivity by saying that she sees a polar bear in a snow storm!

2. The iTEACH principle that can be related is Teachers as Facilitator as the teacher facilitated Vashti by providing the conditions (e.g materials) for her learning.

I like how the teacher did not "force" her to do anything to the paper at first, and was ready to accept the paper as it was - I feel like that encouraged Vashti to make something. Celebrating any effort (small or big) is important to encourage children to try more and more: as we saw with Vashti!
Children as constructors of knowledge: Vashti took her own artistic development into her own hands - while her teacher encouraged her and celebrated her, her teacher did not facilitate anything Vashti did. Her experiments where all done by herself.

Teacher didn't really force her to draw on the spot, she let Vashti explored it on her own by displaying her first drawing, to which, Vashti thought she could do better, in which she did.

I like how the teacher encouraged Vashti instead of saying her drawing was not good. She made Vashti feel confident and showed that every drawing is special. This encouraged Vashti to keep trying.

1) She chooses to empower Vashti instead of simply giving instructions. Instead of drawing for her or telling her what to paint, she says, "Just make a mark and see where it takes you." This helps Vashti let go of her fear of failure and perfectionism.

2)Children as Constructors of Knowledge : The teacher does not tell Vashti what to do. By leaving the canvas blank, Vashti has to try things out, use the paintbrush, and discover on her .It is more about expressing yourself. This helps Vashti find her own identity

I found it interesting that Vashti doubted herself but the teacher never once did, in fact, she asked her to sign it and framed it up like it was a proud artwork. Vashti then did it for her friend in the same way the teacher did for her: showing us that children mirror and are a reflection of the people around us.
Children are constructors of knowledge: Vashti saw the need in wanting to make improvements of her dot, she tried many different techniques and discovered that many things can be done to express her dot.

1) The teacher did not scold or criticise the child. She was encouraging in her words, and validate the child, even though it was a blank paper. She then gave suggest, on what the child could do. When all the child gave was a dot, she let the child take ownership and pride in the work, by signing it.

I liked that the teacher recognised Vashti's feelings instead of criticising her.The teacher also valued her effort. By asking her to sign,it shows that every child's work is meaningful and must be celebrated.

I like how the teacher encourages the child and not discriminate Vashti effort even though the artwork seems simple. I guess the teacher wanted Vashti to start somewhere at least rather then not trying.

I like how the teacher acknowledges Vashti's drawing by making her sign her name on the drawing of a dot. After which, the teacher hanged Vashti's drawing, and that motivates Vashti to draw an even better dot and to explore different colours of her watercolour paint to create her very own masterpiece.
Children as constructors of knowledge, where Vashti explored new colours from her paint and expanded her learning by mixing different colours paint will give her a brand new colour hence creating different dots full of different colours.

I like the teacher because she does not give up on Vashti. She tells Vashti to just make a small mark and see what happens. She helps Vashti feel confident to try.

I like the teacher didn't force her, instead she provide positive feedback to Vashti and the teacher even display her artwork in the class which help to encourage her to do better and she felt being recognise by her teacher even she felt herself didn't do a good job.

1) I like how the teacher did not pressure the child to do something she does not feel obligated to do. She allowed her to do the simplest thing and set her dot as something to look at and do better.

2) Children are constructors of knowledge. The teacher gave her a push to do the simplest thing and still showcased the dot on her desk to make connection with her prior beginnings which made the child want to create more sophisticated artworks that has something to do with the dot. That made the child explore with different materials and discover her own artstyle which is dots.

I like the way teacher talked to Vashti when she was not able to draw and also the way of encouragement to start drawing with a simple dot which helped her to bring confidence.

1) I like how the teacher made her sign her artwork and framed it after. It gives Vashti an opportunity to reflect on her artwork and made her want to improve and experiment on her artwork on her own.

I like how the teacher asked her to sign her signature off the dot she drew on the paper. acknowledging that it was still art though she was not confident in it.

The teacher allowed the child to explore freely even after the child said that she can't draw. She wasn't forceful. She made the child's art piece look signifant and important - like a real art piece that you'd see in a museum. No instructions except to ask her to draw a dot and see where the dot leads her to.
