The Silent Majority

Start: "The Silent Majority" was a term coined by President Nixon. It was what he called the group of Americans who did not openly participate in politics or movements. Often, he would call on them to openly support him and raise awareness for "peace with honor." Over time, though, antiwar protestors took the term and redefined it to suit their purposes. Over the years there have been other presidents to also use the term.

Goals: The goals of the Silent Majority were similar to Nixon's; they wanted the war to be over but they wanted to end the conflict with warfare AKA "peace with honor". However, they made no visible effort to make this known. That is why they are the Silent Majority.

Methods: The Silent Majority was just that, silent. The only notable backlash members of the group exhibited was the Hard Hat riot of 1970 when construction workers fought against antiwar protesters.
