My name is Aiman Shah and I am an ex student of Meridian Secondary School. What I can say about myself is that I am a charismatic and outgoing person with a sense of responsibility in me. Due to my ongoing CCA, which is NCC is what shaped me to be that ideal person I am today. I used to be the Unit Sergeant Major in my school and partake in many courses during my secondary times. Now, I am a passionate Cadet Officer who uses leadership skill-sets on a daily basis in my life. My hobbies are skating, making and editing videos and drawing as I know myself to be a person who thinks freely of the world as it is today. My reasons why my hobbies are those as it closely resonates with my personality where I am able to freely convey a message through the work of art and videos. I aspire to be an Ad Videographer, making videos closely residing to what I feel passionate about and making videos that portray my philosophy in life which is resilience. Therefore, I wish to pursue the Common Design Programme in Temasek Polytechnic to further expand my knowledge and see the world in a more abstract and vibrant way and use skills from what I will learn in Common Design Programme

Title: Motionless

The story for this video is to show distress and being one with nature, as if everything is motionless. This is where we get to glimpse a mix of nature, HDB/architecture and vehicles where in the first few parts they are all segregated from one another and it is to display there is no motion between any of the 3 separately. But, when combined, the last part of this short film I made shows Utopia, unification of the 3 aspects displayed in the video, Nature, Architecture, Vehicles and most importantly, People. The video I made is trying to capture the essence of being distressed without the key aspects being merged into something new. A dystopia turned utopia is what the video represents and nothing can take motion without any of the aspects.

I first decided to enrol myself in a photography workshop as I was interested in taking cool photos to post on social media. I in the end completed the Digital Photography Programme and decided further use the knowledge I have learnt from this programme in Secondary 1 to a good use in my videography such as Rule of Thirds, Close up, Extreme Wide Shot and Object Placement.

I received this certificate when I was in Primary school when i participated in this Canon Imagining Academy Workshop. Attending this workshop was the sole reason why I fell in love with the art of filming as through this workshop it shows me how can people express their feelings, philosophies and how they view the world through not just from a piece of paper but digitally through a video.

I received this certificate back when I was in Secondary 3. I decided to take up a higher position as a leader and explore the boundaries as a Leader in my CCA, NCC. As a person, I like to learn, experience, trial and error and open my mind to all sorts of things which led to me deciding to attend this course. In the end, key aspects I can take home from this Course I have attended has taught me to be a team player, Determination, Resilience and further increase my spirit as a person. To conclude, I did not regret taking this Course in my CCA as it made me think out of the box as a leader and to have a growth mindset where everything I do is a stepping stone to a bigger goal.

During this time, I spent 2 weeks for this course, Cadet Officer Course where I was pushed to my limit and my breaking point which totally changed my perception in life which is to be resilient and be unfazed by challenges no matter big or small. I also learnt the technical skills of being a leader and the philosophy of what it is to be a good leader to lead people on how to become aspiring leaders. This course overall helped me pull through a lot and it gives me beneficial life lessons and skills I still hold dear to. I truly have learnt a lot from my secondary school life through NCC and even till now I still strongly believe in those said principles of leadership and use it on how I want to live my life. This opened up my mind in having a growth mindset and being open to many things and to pick up something new. This course also teaches to appreciate the small things in life and it is my driving factor to further persevere not just as a leader but as a human.

One of the few videographers I took inspiration from is from an instagram user, @prophecy00000. The reason is because he films skateboarding videos that suit my interest. And at that point, I started to delve deeper into his more traditional works instead of just normal skating videos/edits he made. What truly made me insipired is all the details and how he conveys a message through short films he made. I like to express myself through art and seeing his short films really inspired me to start filming and taking videos. As a skater who fell in love with making skate videos, seeing his short films made me have a sense of deep passion towards filming. I borrowed aspects of how he plays around with colours in his short films, usage of different angles and lastly the ambience of the sound and lighting to really capture the type of mood he is trying to show in the short film.

The specific work @prophecy00000 resonates a lot of feelings and emotions of despair, trauma, flashbacks and a lot of graphic content such as family negligence, abuse, anger management and more. It creates a claustrophobic and eerie ambience due to the lighting of the video, the usage of monochromatic colours and the sound he chose for the short film. It overalls unpack a lot of heavy emotions which closely resonate to me as I too have such heavy emotions before during my time in secondary. Although not the same as what the message is, the feeling and vibe of the video made me feel something similar to the video. That is what I like about his work and how he creates these short films and allows the viewer to resonate with their inner thoughts and feelings freely.

I did some basic research about the elements of art so that I can apply them into my drawings and videos to further enhance what kind of short film/video or drawing I am trying to capture such as colour, value and space for example. I use these aspects to tell a story about some projects I did over the past few years and now.

I did some self research on how to do my own videography. I learnt some of the basics and I use it to apply it into the small projects I made during my past time. I use these skills to help tell a story and portray something I want how I feel to the viewer. An example is feelings of distress or feelings of rumination towards watching a video.

Title: Resilience

The Short Film I made titled, Resilience represents how a skater like me displays said value in life. When faced with challenges, I would not stop skating even when the going gets tough, just like an ant's resilience to serve only for the queen ant. The ant in the video represents being small in a big world where everything is bigger than you, where the flower is bigger than the ant and metaphorically the buildings and architecture is bigger than me, I am metaphorically the ant. The reason why I chose an ant as it shows a quality in me which I display as a Leader when I was the Unit Sergeant Major and now a refound Cadet Officer which is resilient. Hence, showing the story line for said video

I drew this out of my love for Dark Fantasy and I made my own character out of creativity and from what I have known about Dark Fantasy. I named it Dragon Oracle Knight as the spikes represent scales of a dragon and there is an eye on the chestplate acting as an overseer, hence to why I come with the name Dragon Oracle Knight.

I was trying to learn shading and value, one of the elements of art when drawing this character I made. It is a visual representation of an adolescent whom closely relates to me in terms of me fitting into the skate culture as I skate a lot and due to this, it made me have a visualisation of what an adolescent means where it represents out of the norm clothing such as crop top.

This is the Final Art work I have concluded. I Drew this to represent the positive outlook of my Secondary School's 5th anniversary. It shows Joy from the colours displayed as it is the 7 colours of the rainbow where it also represents unity and harmony with one another as Meridians. The wired texture is to add depth and it is to show 'scars' even though going through a lot, we are still able to persevere as Meridians. Hence, the final artwork displayed here

I took different artworks and pieces and i use aspects of certain drawings to make my own work as inspirations such as Baskets of Africa, Blown Away and Wired Structure. I drew out the prototype for the final piece.

Title: Moth

I titled this collage "Moth" as it shows a story line. The reader is the Moth and is allured by the glistering light and moves closer and closer to the lamp to witness its beauty and magnificence. Since Moths are attracted to light, hence the story line of us being metaphorically as a moth being attracted to something pretty just like how in real life we tend to go for the pretty things not knowing it can be malicious or even fatal, just like how the moth goes too close to the light and then dies due to the heat of the light. Hence, the lesson I am trying to portray for this collage and this story is that sometimes curiosity gets the better of us and can lead us to sticky situations. The colour of the collage is mostly UV and Blue as a Moth's Vision consists of a lot of blue tints, UV tints and pink tints.

What I know about Common Design Programme

Common Design Programme is a pathway for people who have interests in taking the design route and are passionate in pursuing innit but they are still trying to find that specialised path in the design industry. They are here to get equipped with all the contextual design knowledge provided to them in this course to be prepared for which specialised route they choose to pursue such as Digital Film and Television or Apparel Design and Merchandising. What they will learn during the course is mostly diving into entry level for design and covering all the aspects of both general design, arts, photography and videography where Common Design Programme teaches the core principles and essential skills of a successful designer. While then, we will also embrace experimenting with everyday materials whilst having fun.

Why did I choose the Common Design Programme in TP?

I choose Common Design Programme at TP as I feel that I want to gain more contextual knowledge and expand my knowledge of what I know about Design. I am eager to learn and explore outside my comfort zone so that I am able to maximise to my fullest potential. I yearn to push myself into those boundaries before going for what I actually want to pursue which is to be a Video Editor for Adidas. The reason why I chose this course at TP as I have heard many things from my seniors who schooled at TP. One of them stated that TP is an immersive place where you are able to interact with things whilst having the joy of learning. There is also a strong culture going about in TP and since I was part of a strong culture in both my Hobbies which is skating and CCA which is NCC, I too would like to have strong connected bonds in TP such as one of their CCAs which is Dikir Barat.
