Osteoporosis is a bone disease that causes the bones to become weak and brittle. This disease occurs when the creation of new bone cannot keep up with the loss of old bone. With such weak and brittle bones, the risk of break and damage is much higher.

Sally Field, being a strong woman herself and playing various roles of strong women, endures her bone-thinning battle. Around her 60th birthday she had been diagnosed with this "silent" disease. Advancing quickly, this disease discouraged and threatened many aspects of her life. "But I was amazed at how quickly a woman could go from being at risk to having full-fledged osteoporosis." This disease was in full flight, the scariest part was the fact that she had no symptoms or signs to suggest anything was wrong. However, Sally never let this disease define or overcome her strength. This renown oscar-winning actress then went on to take on a new roll, in which she began her "Rally with Sally for bone health" advocation. "When I discovered there were things I could do to improve my bone health, I was so relieved. For me, treating my osteoporosis means I can strengthen my bones and continue an active lifestyle without being afraid of a fracture." Sally created her osteoporosis awareness campaign in which she shared everything she had learned in order to help others who are struggling with this disease. "We've never been willing to sit back and take anything, and that includes this disease. We're going to do everything we can to take action and protect ourselves." Being the extremely strong woman Sally Field is, she took this opportunity to fight back against this disease as well as help others in need.
