Here is the text book definition of Digital citizen
A digital citizen is a person utilizing information technology (IT) in order to engage in society, politics, and government. Karen Mossberger and others define digital citizens as "those who use the Internet regularly and effectively".

So why is Digital citizenship so important to me you might ask?
It's important as educators that we lead by example in all aspects of our lives and that now includes digital. We are all leaving a digital foot print and it might as well be a positive one. As educators we are held to a higher standard with our choice of social medias and to keep it clean and safe.
Let's face it the digital world is here and its not going anywhere anytime soon. embracing the digital era and also being a responsible patron is very important for kids to learn early on. There could be real life consequences if kids are not taught of the dangers such as cyberbullying, Digital predators, digital trafficking for minors, posting private information, and falling for scams in general. Being taught digital citizenship can prevent all of this, enough reason said.
