I strongly agree with majority of what the author presented in the passage, The author expresses that most students have forgotten, or really were never taught how to find the true enjoyment of reading. As the years go by, younger generations do not read as often, it seems to be more reading excerpts to prepare for standardized test (which we actually have to pay for with our taxpayer dollars, like what) than actually learning through reading novels. Through the years test scores have shown a lower rate of students excelling in literacy parts of an exam, this is widely due to the lack of true reading mixed with the use of social media.

I think the author was dead on. He had some vary valid points on how we don’t read for the enjoyment but read because we have to or it is for a grade. I think that we should read for the fun of it and I like the metaphor about the 747 cockpit

I agree with the author of this passage. I feel like the education system is really just messed up for a lot of reason, but mainly with the issue of how many of us are actually reading. Most high school students haven't actually picked up a book or read a full novel. All they've done is read excerpts from novels to prepare for tests and on tests.

I agree with what the author is saying. With the No Child Left Behind Act, teachers are more focused on getting the kids to just pass the standardized tests, and are forgetting about the importance of reading in general. Then we forget about reading, eventually becoming more reliant on excerpts and just passing standardized tests.

Schools have changed this new generation with standardized tests. We take the tests and don't recall any of the information from it and this same thing is happening with novels. We don't read books because we want to it's because we have to. When we don't have to we don't and that is the problem.

He has a good point , i feel like we should read more books but books that we like and don´t have to just read them cause our teachers makes us read.I think kids don´t like reading any more cause of the new innovations of technology and back in the day they did´t have anything to do with phones so they would like to read more.
