My cousin, who lives in La Lima, experienced one of the most terrifying moments of his life. He was at home with his family, preparing dinner, when it started pouring rain. At first they thought it could be just another storm, something common in that area. However, as the hours passed, the wind became too strong and the rain turned into floods that reached their neighborhood.

He felt extremely anxious and helpless.

The electricity went out, and the water level kept rising. There was too much water flooding the streets and not enough time to prepare. Many of their neighbors, who lived in lower areas, were forced to evacuate their homes. His family was lucky that they lived in a house which was on higher ground, but they still lost a lot of their belongings due to the flooding

The result was devastating

Many people lost their homes and belongings, and those who didn't prepare enough faced even greater losses.

In the days after the disaster

My cousin couldn't stop thinking about what could have happened if the flooding had been worse or if they hadn't been safe at home. Now, he constantly worries about what may happen in the future. There is too much uncertainty about when the next disaster will strike and not enough resources available to rebuild.

Now, he and his family can’t go to certain places because many roads are still too damaged.

The area, which used to be so lively, has become much quieter. Too many people have left, and the community hasn’t fully recovered.
