IN 1865 Cesare Castiglioni, the director of the province mental institution of Milan "Senavra", by then overcrowded, proposed to transfer some patients to Mombello, at Villa Crivelli. The fist patients that arrived were the quietest, which were used in productive activities like the work in the field. It became the biggest psychiatric hospital in Lombardy of its time, mostly after the closing of Senavra. Later, the hospital became large: they built a pharmacy, a bakery, a weavery, a laundry, a hand made laboratory, a work shop, like the carpentry, other sectors, a theatre. The new buildings would have to manage with a lot of patients, that in some cases arrived to contain 4000, and the personnel. It was a real country! Squad of patients, under the control of the personnel, worked in some activities, for the precepts of ergotherapy. Since 1911 professor Antonini became director, and he stayed at Mombello till 1930 and brought improvements and exstensions to the area of the hospital, mostly with the builing of the sectors with good ventilation and brigtness. The teacher Antonini, student of Lombroso, brought his massive experience like a director of psychiatric hospital and the his wide knowledge on the cultural anthropology of criminology.
The illness more diffused was the syphilis, the pellagra, due mainly to alimentation

On 15th may 1796, Napoleone Bonaparte, in his first italy campaign ,after beating the Austrian troops, entered Milan succesfully. On 6th may 1797, a few days after the first anniversary of the battle on the Lodi bridge, Bonaparte finished successfully the war with Leoben armistice; therefore, waiting for stipulating the treaty of peace, He moved from his residence to Milan on the milanese countryside of Groane. The locality selected was Montebello on the Villa Pusterla Crivelli, Napoleon stayed at the villa for 6 months. He also brought his family to the villa: his wife Giuseppina, his mother Letizia Ramolino, his two brothers, andhis three sisters. The villa was crowed of servants and messengers. The life was a sequence of parties, luxurious banquets and political meetings . But the life in the court wasn't easy: Elisa and Paolina found a tempestive relationship with Giuseppina, older to Napoleon to 7 years and two sons. And Napoleon had to control the restlessness of two lively sisters, above all Paolina.
