It almost feels like acknowledging that this is the end of Marie-Jeanne and Ray’s life together, even though they won’t ever stop loving each other. It feels like foreshadowing that somebody as upbeat and excitable as Ray has such a melancholy favorite song. Why would such a sad song be their first dance? Perhaps because they’re doomed to a criminally short time together. (from my Text of the Week assignment)
