The sound is produced by magnetic pickups and controlled by several knobs. If you pluck a string on an electric guitar that is not plugged in, the sound is barely audible. Without a soundboard and a hollow body, there is nothing to amplify the string's vibrations.

To produce sound, an electric guitar senses the vibrations of the strings electronically and routes an electronic signal to an amplifier and speaker. The sensing occurs in a magnetic pickup mounted under the strings on the guitar's body.

If it’s a six string guitar in standard tuning with 22 frets, then yes, its range is E2-D6, excluding bends on the high E string. Every fret that is added or taken away creates another half step difference to the guitar’s range.

The range of a guitar can also be altered by guitar effects. A DigiTech Whammy, for example, can lower or raise the range of the guitar by 1–2 octaves.

The majority of material comprising a modern guitar is wood. Typical woods used for the body and neck of a guitar today are mahogany, ash, maple, basswood, agathis, alder, poplar, walnut, spruce and holly. Woods from around the world are also incorporated into modern acoustic and electric guitars. Some of these exotic tone woods include koa, rosewood, bubinga, korina, lacewood, zebrawood, padouk, redwood and wenge. With modern manufacturing techniques almost any wood can be used if it can be obtained in an acceptable quantity.
Other parts of the modern guitar such as tuners, frets, the bridge, and the pickups are made out of metals and plastics.

It's not up to the person its up to whatever it is inside each player that makes us need to and want to play. The guitar is one of the most portable means of expression. There is no maximum limit to the personal value of free expression. Music can be a best friend, a trove of creativity, or a sanctuary. Like good novels, movies, plays and craftsmanship, their value is beyond price. The interplay among musicians is a boundless territory.
