I drew my crest using a pink color.  I am naturally drawn to girlier elements and colors.  I have been told my work is a bit on the feminine side.  I also incorporated my own handwriting for my name/text.  I thought it would be more original if I used my own writing versus a generic font.

I used Shape to create the different pieces of the crest. If you look very closely, you can see the leaf and flowers are all various organic shapes. I also used Line to create the writing.]]> 2020-11-29 00:31:01 UTC https://padlet.com/jkanemaru/Sample/wish/967636605 jkanemaru https://padlet.com/jkanemaru/Sample/wish/967640209 I am Ms. Kanemaru and I teach Middle School Art!  I have 2 french bulldogs and and 2 sisters.  My favorite thing to do on my free time is binge Netflix!  In my self-portrait, I incorporated some of my objects that represent me within my hair pieces.  I put the Green Bay Packers logo in because that is my FAVORITE football team.  The second hair pin is a monstera leaf.  This was my first plant and now I am a crazy plant lady.  The third hair pin is my frenchie, Charlotte.  She is my first dog baby.  The 4th pin is a wave.  I LOVE going to the beach.  When I was younger, I would go every week during summer.  I don't have as much time to go now days, but I try to go whenever I can.  The 5th object is not as blatant, but I enjoy sunsets.  I think the colors in the sky are the prettiest during this time.

The Elements that are visible in my self-portrait are color and value. Color can be seen throughout the painting. I chose to use color, even within the shadows. Value can be seen within the colors of the painting. I used various values of pink and peach tones to create the skin. I also used various values of brown and tan to create the shadows and highlights in my hair. The Principles that are visible are balance, proportion, and unity. My painting is evenly balanced, with my face taking up a majority of the picture plane. I also used proportion by following the various realism studies we did in class to make sure the facial features were all proportionally accurate. And finally, unity can be seen through the use of color. I used all colors in a washy way. In my poster, I chose to show a silhouette of 2 mallets and the mortar.  In the middle ground, I chose to put the Kagami Mochi.  In the background, I included a gradient and a sunburst with text.  An interesting fact about the Kagami Mochi is that it is supposed to represent the passage of time.  One mochi represents the previous year and another mochi represents the upcoming year.  The orange at the top represents the family.

The Art Deco characteristics I incorporated into my project were the sunburst and gradient in the background. I also incorporated streamlined and geometric shapes to create the overall image. The Element I primarily used was Shape. I used the rectangle and rounded rectangle tool to create several of the shapes seen throughout. I also kept my Color used in this poster very simple. I primarily used oranges, green, white, and black. A Principle I used in my poster was Emphasis. I emphasized the Kagami Mochi even though it is in the middle ground. The scene that is being displayed in my tunnel book is something that happens towards the end of The Golden Compass.  Lyra, Pan, and Iorek are racing to the beam in the sky. This beam is a doorway to another dimension. In the foreground, you can see Lyra and Pan riding Iorek, the armored bear. In the middle ground is a layer of mountain and Lee Scoresby's balloon in the sky. In the background, there is the final layer of mountain and the portal to the other dimension.

"Never had Lyra seen it so brilliant and dramatic; with every twitch and shiver, new miracles of light danced across the sky. And behind the ever-changing gauze of light that other world, that sunlit city, was clear and solid." I chose this passage because it represents the time Lyra clearly can see the other dimension. It is significant because this is the moment she realizes the magic of "dust."

The Element, Space is very prominent. I am creating Space by having a foreground, middle ground, and background. Things get smaller as they go further back in Space, which also help show distance. I also used the Colors violet and blue to show an icy, cool environment. The cool Colors give the feeling of coldness. Lyra and the armored bear in the foreground show Emphasis using Color. The armored bear is gold, which helps it stand out among the cooler colors. I also used Balance to ensure that my tunnel book is visually balanced.

What I like most about my tunnel book is the frame! I spent the most amount of time working on it. I made the frame into an alethiometer, which is a very important compass that predicts the future. Something that I could work on is adding more detail or more items into the actual tunnel book itself.
