Clear aims and objectives help teachers to focus their attention on the specific outcomes they want to achieve. To meet the requirement of the syllabus. Having clear aims and objectives makes it easier to assess students' progress and learning outcomes. It helps teachers to determine whether they have achieved the intended learning outcomes, identify areas that need improvement, and adjust their teaching strategies accordingly. Coherent structure promotes learning: It helps teachers to sequence the learning activities in a logical and meaningful way, providing a clear flow of instruction that is easy for students to follow. The basic structure of a coherent lesson plan typically includes the following elements: 1.Learning objectives or aims: These are the specific learning outcomes that the lesson aims to achieve. They should be clear, concise, and measurable.2.Introduction: This is the opening part of the lesson, where the teacher introduces the topic and engages students' attention. It may include a hook, an overview of the lesson, and a statement of the learning objectives. 3.Lesson development: This is the core part of the lesson, where the teacher presents the new material, explains concepts, and provides examples. It may include various teaching strategies such as lectures, discussions, group work, or hands-on activities.4.Practice or application: This is the part of the lesson where students apply what they have learned through exercises, projects, or assignments. It provides an opportunity for students to practice and reinforce their understanding of the new material. 5.Assessment: This is the part of the lesson where the teacher evaluates students' learning outcomes. It may include formative assessments such as quizzes or exit tickets, or summative assessments such as exams or projects. 6.Closure: This is the final part of the lesson, where the teacher summarizes the main points, reviews the learning objectives, and provides feedback. It may also include a reflection activity or homework assignment.

Why must a lesson plan have clear aims and objectives? – Rupa

Aims and objectives are an important part of the educational process, assisting in clarifying the relationship between the learner and the educator. The writing of aims and objectives assists educators in designing course content, teaching strategies or processes, and assessment methods that are appropriate. Clear aims and objectives benefit students in a number of ways.
- A student, upon reading aims and objectives, should have a clearer understanding of what they will learn should they successfully complete the course, subject or task.
- Aims and objectives are also an indication to students of what they may be expected to demonstrate in assignments and examinations.

KQ2 What is the difference between an aim and an objective?

Ans: The difference between aim and objective has a thin yet distinct line. Aim is vague and open to interpretation. Aims do not contain strategic plans. It focuses on expectations from teachers and learners, what should be taught, and what should be learned. Objective, on the other hand, is more precise, and accurate, focuses on what students are able to do, knows the result of their learning, and develops opportunities where they can achieve the learning objective. Aim in a way is similar to wishful thinking and objective is taking active actions to achieve what has been set.

A good lesson plan makes a teacher become more well organized and also boost confidence through out the lesson execution. The aim and objective gives a clear idea to teacher what to teach and learners what to learn. The content of a lesson plan carries different activities designed by teachers as per topic need and time bounded. At the end of a lesson, it gives a reflection to the teacher where to improve and where to change strategies based on the planned formative assessment.

In a coherent lesson plan, constructivism and metacognition both exists. A learners starts with prior knowledge connection to the new topic. A clear and coherent lesson offers more chance to keep track and engage students in higher order learning activities. Activities are carried on with different planned startegies like, research, analyse etc. at the end, learners will reflect that the learning objectives a well met or some new strategies could have made the lesson a better one with more fruitful outcome.
Example-
Prior topic could be pollution and new topic could be global warming. students will relate their prior knowledge to execute the understanding of global warming effects.

Example of a Lesson Structure: Classification of Nouns

The aim of the lesson is language development and the objectives are to learn different kinds of nouns and to be able to identify different kinds of nouns and use them in sentences correctly. To check prior learning we can maintain a KWL chart and we will take feedback from the students on what they already know, what they need to know and what they learned. Then we can plan an activity like we can show them some pictures and they will name them looking at the pictures. Then they will classify the items according to different types of nouns like proper nouns and common nouns. The teacher will assist where needed. Now for further development, they will be asked to relate these nouns with their real experience. For formative assessment, they will work in groups to solve some exercises. Students will be asked to find out the proper nouns from the given list and will be asked to write a common noun for each word. For the wrap-up activity- the teacher will use the traffic light strategy where student will respond to the question by showing red and green lights for true and false Q/A. - Ms. Saima, Ms. Rumi, Ms. Nishat
