My favorite part of this assignment was the squiggly lines shading, it came the easiest and quickest to me and It was nice to be able to let loose.

Colored pencils

My usual traditional art supply is colored pencils, especially when doing landscapes. I like the way the colors are able to blend and you can build them up.

Oil pastels

I decided to draw peaches, I don’t normally use watercolor but I had a really fun time. It was interesting applying the techniques I’ve seen other do for the first time in real life.

I don’t really like using acrylic paints but it was sort of fun to try something I haven’t done in a long time. My favorite part was making the sky and the clouds with my fingers.

Charcoal

I don’t normally use charcoal but it was fun trying it out. My favorite part was blending the charcoal to create more texture.

I completely forgot to take an in progress photo I spend an hour doing this and I used oil pastels. It was really fun and I like the texture of the oil pastels. With Impressionism I feel less pressure to be perfect and I can just draw without any issues.

Fauvism Style

I did this with oil pastels, I don’t like this style very much I like realistic drawings when it comes to people but it was still fun. I started with oil pastels and near the end used colored pencils to add some detail.

I really enjoyed doing this style, I just kinda doodled whatever I felt like doodling in the moment. This piece is specifically surrealism because there’s no logic to it, the art is very juxtaposed and creative.

I don’t typically like abstract art, I feel as though it doesn’t require much skill to do but I liked making the crab. This is abstract because I turned something typically complicated to draw into something easy and less complicated to make.

I decided to draw over something I wasn’t really fond of and add to the page, I used colored pencils and oil pastels as they are my favorite mediums to use. And I enjoyed drawing a pomegranate for the first time.

I followed one of the tutorials provided because I’ve never used this medium before. I hated it, mainly because I absolutely cannot stand the feel of chalk and it was extremely messy. I’m happy with the results however. (I forgot to take an in progress photo)

I chose this particular assignment as my mastery because it has grown on me the most, I like how different it is from my usual art and I’ve learned to appreciate different styles through this piece specifically. I believe this fauvism style has challenged me the most out of every style.

For this assignment I drew cherries in three different ways. This was very simple and fun to do. I drew the cherries in contour lines, geometric contour lines, and blind contour lines. Which were all easy get challenging in their own ways.

I used oil pastels to color in this drawing of the contour lines cherry. I really enjoy using oil pastels I think that they are a super fun way to add color and texture at the same time.

I think I had a bit of art block while drawing this, no matter what line I made I wasn’t satisfied with it. I spent around 50 minutes just doodling and adding lines varying in thickness but I’m really disappointed with the results for some reason. I don’t usually do this type of almost abstract surrealism kind of design but it was nice trying something new.

I used all 5 values of light to dark, the darkest being the shadows near the edges of the cherry and the lightest ones being the highlights on the cherries. I used charcoal to complete this assignment and I blended with my finger.

I used SIZE, VERTICAL LOCATION, and OVERLAPPING to show space in my drawing. I drew the two cherries and the leaves in the FOREGROUND. They are the largest in size and take up the most space in the drawing. In the MIDDLE GROUND I drew the two cherries hiding behind the leaf to create depth. And then in the BACKGROUND I drew a small farm which is the furthest and tiniest thing in the drawing. I colored these with colored pencils and oil pastels.

These are my 7 artworks for this opt, my favorite principle is the Texture Principle, it was the most fun to draw and I believe it looks the best. The most difficult one to draw was the Perspective principle, as it took the longest.

Metaphor Mastery “Cutting Corners”

For this mastery assignment I showed three different was the phrase “cutting corners” could be interpreted through drawings. The scissors a paper references the literal meaning of the phrase, and the scissors are shown cutting off the corners of a piece of paper. The faucet can be interpreted as the “correct meaning” of the phrase which is “undertake something in what appears to be the easiest, quickest, or cheapest way, especially by omitting to do something important or ignoring rules.” this drawing shows someone fixing a faucet that is broken by applying cloth, something that water leaks through, to quickly solve their issue. And lasting, the third drawing which depicts a drawing of a maze represents someone actively “cutting corners” by going around the corners of the outside of the maze in order to get to the end quicker! When drawing this I used the “form” Element of art to create a 3D shading effect when creating the objects in my drawings.

I drew flowers and leaves on my shoe with a small blue gradient on the sides of the shoe. My color scheme was blue, pink, and green and the element of art I used was Color.

Mastery project: Career Final Project

For my project, I chose logo/branding designer. For this assignment, I chose to rework the Burger King logo and put my own twist on it. I feel like the logo is lackluster so I wanted to add more designs that I felt like fit the brand more. I had fun designing it out and picking out which design to go with. I colored it with colored pencils to get a general gist of the color scheme and then I outlined with a fine tipped sharpie.
