1. Bradbury was inspired by Venus because of the clouds that cover 98% of its surface.
2. It is supported by the short story because it talks about Venus being a rainy, cloudy place. Venus is a very cloudy place, and that is where Bradbury got his inspiration.
3. The environment that Bradbury describes in the short story is different than in reality because really Venus has no water and is deadly for humans because of all the carbon dioxide in the air. Venus also has a very high air pressure that would crush humans and is very, very hot. These conditions in reality make it so humans can not live on Venus but in the short story, Bradbury makes the environment on Venus be able to support human life.

1. Nature in the poem acts as peaceful and beautiful cover up to what happened to the humans on the planet. Nature acts as the distraction that will not stop even if we humans eradicate each other.
2. The poets tone in the poem is peaceful at first listing plants and animals peacefully living their lives. Then there is a shift when the poet describes that the humans have wiped each other out. The attitude that poem develops towards humans is that the humans are the background while nature is going.

1. The prospect of human colonies on other planets is stated in both texts by describing the conditions and environment on the planets. They take the conditions from the planet and see if humans could live there. They take the air pressure, atmosphere composition, water, etc. and see if those conditions could support human life.
2. Life on Mars would differ from live on Venus because they have really different conditions. For example, Venus is a super hot planet while Mars is a pretty cold planet. They also have different air pressures as well as surface compositions. These differences make it hard for humans to live on either planet.
3. The short story impacted how I feel about the idea of sending humans to live on Mars by making me think that it could actually happen. On Venus, with the conditions it has, humans would not be able to survive, but on Mars it could be possible. Mars is more similar to Earth than Venus and has similar conditions, so it could be possible for humans to start living there.

"What is Mars" by NASA

1. In both texts they speak of living on different planets. In this one is presumed to be possible one day to live on Mars but in the other text it tells how Venus is unlivable. They are different then. Living on a different planet seems to be a big goal for NASA and a good bit of people because it'd be a new environment or could be a place to live in case of an apocalyptic event happened. These reasons are huge to people so living on a different planet or being able to go to one and live a is huge.

2. It would differ in how Mars is cold and Venus is hot as well as Mars seems to have livable traits while Venus doesn't. Life would be impossible and harsh on Venus while life on Mars you just better be able to find a way to stay warm but water would be able to be found on Mars but on Venus you would make sure that you bring water to Venus to live there. Living on Mars compared to Venus is almost complete polar opposites but let' just say that life on Mars would be way easier and less hassle then life on Venus.

3. It impacts how I feel in the way that what if that's what would happen if we lived on Mars and that would be terrible but it also inspires me and interests me more in the idea of living on another planet and seeing what it would be like.

What we do right now affects our descendants and the lives that they will lead to live and it affects the environment around us.

The technique he uses is emphasis and responsibility. He puts responsibility on the viewer for the worlds well being, so it makes you want to listen to him and think about your actions.

His message goes along with the story because we are all just people trying to live our lives and provide for ourselves and our families. This makes for a good story, just not a believable one.
3.Humans would not keep the information a secret. Countless conspiracy theories, books, and movies have been based off the idea of aliens or some sort of life on mars. there would be mixed reactions to the discovery. Some would be terrified, others would ask questions, what are these organisms? how do they live? how long have they lived? etc.

1.) The cost of having technological advances in "Autumntime" have showed that nature is being completely forgotten and people have not seemed to care because the rest of their world is perfect. Just like in the article "Why are Bees Vanishing?" people now do not have to worry about there food being all gross and somewhat not perfect. This is because of agricultural advancements have been somewhat forgotten as well. Putting so many pesticides on crops to the point where its killing our bees is a pretty great cost.
2. )The setting in the short story "Autumntime" Is very similar to the present. In the present we have lots of pollution and buildings everywhere, which is how the narrator described what their time period is like living in. We also sacrifice many agricultural things for the sake of making money. Most of some super rare natural things are put on display and you have to pay to see them, a tourist attraction. Like in the short story his parents had to pay to see the tree, a tourist attraction.

The theme of “A Song on the End of the World” is that things will come to an end but you might never notice, big changes can happen without the realization that they are happening. The theme of “By the Waters of Babylon” is things are not as different as you might think. The events in “A Song on the End of the World” are just normal everyday occurrences that people experience and in “By the Waters of Babylon” the events are a journey of discovery and they bring enlightenment to the characters. These compare and contrast in the way that the poem has normal everyday events with a big change happening that people don’t even realize and the short story has a big realization that will change the way people worship and think. The poem is an unnoticed change and the short story is a big realization that will change the way people think forever.

The differences that are present in the characters and their lifestyles from "If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth" are; the characters live in space colonies on the moon and many of the other people at the colony, except for his father, have forgotten why they came to the moon and that was to escape the aftermath of the Armageddon.
3. People are so interested in imagining what we will look like, where and how we will live, and what our actions now will have on our future.
4. Our drive to imagine prompts technological change because in order to satisfy our imagination and curiosity we must invent new technology and or change current technology so it is possible for the things that we imagined to happen.

The sacrifices are similar because they both have to live in a small place with lots of people and they aren’t able to do certain things outside. The sacrifices are different because the people on the HI-SEAS probably had a choice live in isolation while in the short story most of the children had grown up living in isolation and didn’t have a choice. These sacrifices are worthwhile because we will never know anything until we try and by doing this, we can become more prepared for the unknown. In the story, it is better that the children don’t understand what they are missing because it creates a happier mood when they see the sun. This scenario might be similar for a future Mars-born generation because there will be certain things that the Earth will get more than Mars will. The people on Earth wouldn’t think anything about it, but the people on Mars who have never seen it before, would think it was amazing.

The settings of both texts play a role in the conflicts by creating a place that is different than Earth. By making the setting like this, it creates a sense that lots of things can happen. It also creates the basis for the conflict. For example, in the short story the setting was on Venus where it rains constantly but for a couple hours the sun is coming out. By having this setting, it creates the conflict with Margot and the children fighting about what the sun looks like, and results in Margot getting locked into a closet. These environments would affect me by having a different personality and not being as extroverted. I would learn more about myself on a deeper level and would have to overcome being isolated from life and everything I would know. Traits that are necessary for long space travel are patience and determination. Astronauts would need patience because it is a long time up in space and patience would be key in not going crazy. They would also need determination because without determination they wouldn’t make it as long as they should.

The social dynamics are similar to everyday life on Earth because in the short story there are still kids getting made fun of and bullied, which also happens on Earth. In the videos, the people are mostly still doing the same stuff as they would on Earth, but have to do it with more caution and gear. Margot feels different than the other children because she didn’t grow up on Venus but moved there, while the other children have lived on Venus their entire lives. This affects how the children treat she is different than them and that causes them to be mean to her. The HI-SEAS members deal with everything by confiding in each other and keeping themselves busy. By doing these things and also doing things that give them the sense of comfort, the members are able to deal with isolation and their internal conflict.

We can learn what to do and what not to do for the future Mars community by seeing the Venus civilization. We can also get some ideas from the Venus civilization to use for Mars. The HI-SEAS members have made everything fair for each other and also have made sure that everyone is on the same page about everything. Non-negotiables for setting up a healthy community would be free healthcare, a variety of jobs, and laws that are strict but not too strict. It is important to look at experiences from others because then you can learn from their mistakes and make the best decision possible for yourself and others.

Ray Bradbury is giving the scientists advice to make sure that an idea doesn’t just look good on the outside but is strong and right all the way around. Even though the idea may look good, it still has to be a good, right idea that could still work in the future.

1. In both “Why Are Bees Vanishing?” and “Autumntime,” human technological progress is damaging the natural world. As explained in “Why Are Bees Vanishing?,” pesticides, a new advancement, are killing bees, which will lead to no pollination, which means plants die. Then animals who eat plants will die and eventually humans could be wiped out. All because of a technological advancements to prevent insects from eating plants. However in “Autumntime,” buildings and urban society have taken over and there are no trees left because no one cares about nature in their “perfect” world.
2. Although we are not yet to the point where there are hardly any trees, the world is constantly becoming more and more urbanized. The setting in “Autumntime” and in present-day are not very similar at the moment, but could be almost identical in the future.

In both “Why Are Bees Vanishing” and “Coming: The Sixth Mass Extinction,” the authors emphasize the importance of biodiversity because the human race relies on it. Both mention how trees clean the air and provide oxygen for us to breathe, and plants clear pollutants from the air and water and also provides food for insects(like bees) and animals, which spread seeds to restart the cycle. Without these resources provided by a diverse species, the ecosystem would be thrown off and there would be a mass extinction.

If robots know how to help and how not to hurt, and if they know to be useful in everyday life then humans can take advantage of their capabilities.

2. The technology in "There Will Come Soft Rains" is useful to the family that lived in that house by helping. They did chores, and just made living easier. The mornings wouldn't of been so rushed, nights wouldn't be as chaotic. The in house robot made living a lot less stressful.

3. The technology in "There Will Come Soft Rains" is similar to the technology in "Can Machines Learn Mortality?". Both types of robots were there to help, not to harm. They both were there to make situations go quicker, easier, and not cause any damage to humans. Both types of robots were programed to be humans friend, or companion, not an enemy.

1.The technologies present in both text are different by a large margin. The short story shows technology that regulate our lives by giving commands based on the time. Emotion expressed from the House in "There Will Come Soft Rains" are when the house understands Mrs. McClellan's favorite poem. The article discusses AI understanding mortality. This differs from the short story because we get more emotion from the technology in the article while the technology in the short story is more like a machine.
2. Technology in the short story does not express much mortality. The house acts more as a programmed machine to do the same thing over and over again.
3. Ideas in the article present what robots would do if they understood right from wrong. Understand why they are doing what they are doing while in the short story the house is just repeating itself.

1.Both text depict the natural world being predicted and adjusted to. We learn in the short story that the world around the house has been gone for a duration of time, the house is the only house standing. Even though the short stories focus is describing the routine of the house we get few hints that the world of nature still goes. The large hint is that near the beginning when the house chimes 8:01 A.M. we get a message from the outside weather box telling us it's raining. This means the natural world is still going and that humanity went but not nature. How this compares to the article is we learn how the NWS uses technology to predict nature. Nature is depicted as unpredictable or dangerous but we can predict it using technology. Nature, in its own way, is working against us to were us down.
2. Nature can be dangerous so the NWS make predictions to be better prepared for what could come. Satellite, buoys, radar and other information is gathered to make the best prediction on the weather. Through these predictions we can avoid possible deaths and injures or just be better prepared physically and mentally for the weather.
3. The truth for why we predict nature is because humans know we can't control nature, only make it better or worse. We make predictions to prepare for the worst, think of ways to survive nature. We live with nature and we cannot change its course.
4. We can't control nature as much as nature controls us. Nature is a force that will go even after we parish. Our actions do affect nature but not control it. We cause pollution that affects the world around us. This pollution will affect nature in ways that will make our lives worse.

Programmers work on getting robots to learn right from wrong. The discussion on the panel discussed how our meaning of moral might be too restrictive for robots to learn. Many discussions on the panel lead back to robots having restrictions because of our world. The articles view of robots learning morality is positive, but unlike the panel the article does not discuss restrictions. People in both discussions (article and panel) were the main deciders of how a robot responds. People can work against the AI causing the AI to do things we did not plan for or want it to do. Both pieces discuss how robots could be programmed to learn morality. Robots can only learn as much as we give the robot, humans will be needed to guide the robot. Problems will arise from both view points about how other humans will react to robots.
2. Robots could in theory be programmed to understand almost every possible scenario when given a problem. This program could allow for quick thinking and fast actions that humans might view as dangerous and impossible.

1. The tone of the video is demeaning, we are looked down upon many times throughout the video.
2. Some elements that create this effect is that nature is 22500 times older than our own existence. Others are how the video mentions that what we do will not affect nature but in return will affect our own life. "When I falter, you falter or worse."
3. The purpose of the video is to inform the watcher how our actions to earth only effect how we live. Nature will go on without us if we wipe ourselves out. Think about what you do to the world and how our actions can affect us.
4. Both the poem and media both tell how nature does no care if humans end each other, nature will still go.

1. The tone is w dramatic and overwhelming.
2. The tone is established through fast paced speaking with many thoughts put into our head. The speaker starts with the fact that if all of Earth was put in a 24 hour period we would only be alive for 3 seconds. This fact alone shows how weak we are compared to how long nature has been around. Then throughout the video many actions are shown that were the cause of us. We have caused more than 1000 times the extinctions than normal rates.
3. The purpose of the video is similar to "Nature is Speaking" it is to show how our existence is meaningless to nature and how our actions affect how we live.
4. How the purpose is achieved is by presenting facts about how in our tiny existence we have caused more damage to nature than the entire 4 billion years Earth has been around.

1. Hadfield's experiences compare to those of Marvin's from "If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth" because both of them have lived in space; Hadfield lived on the International Space Station and Marvin lived on the moon. Marvin and Hadfield both view planet Earth from above and both have missed being on Earth; Marvin thinks about what it was like on Earth and he wanted to be on Earth. There experience contrast because Marvin has lived in space his whole life and Hadfield had only lived in space several years. Marvin has been on a planet and Hadfield lived on the ISS.
2. Hadfield's changes in Bowie's lyrics affect the meaning of the lyrics which affects mood of the song on an interpretive level. Hadfield changes the end lyrics from Major Tom dying to him returning home which changes the mood because that is were there is a mood change.

1. In the first verse Ground Control tells Major Tom to prepare for takeoff and Tom is launched into space. In the second verse Tom is in space, Ground Control tells Tom a question the papers want to know, Ground Control tells him if he wants he can go out into space, and Tom describes what it is like in space. In the last verse Tom tells Ground Control that he is lost and to tell his wife he loves her, Ground Control then say his circuits are dead, and the ask if Tom can here him only to have no response from him.
2. The lyrics evoke a negative mood about space travel because in the end Tom ends up dying in space. It is implied that Major Tom dies in space after saying his final words.
3. It is realistic, Bowie's song, because it is a very real fact that space travel is dangerous and has caused death. Hadfield's version uses images of him in the ISS and him flying over Earth to portray Major Tom's journey in space and what he say when he said that planet Earth was blue. He then uses video clips of a spaceship returning to Earth and landing for his final lines of his version.

"The Space Race is Over", "Are Humans Really Going to Mars Anytime Soon", and Peter Diamandis: "Our Great Next Leap"

1. The author Neil Greenfieldboyce, who wrote "Are Humans Really Going to Mars Anytime Soon", thinks that it is both possible for humans to go to Mars soon and not possible for humans to go to Mars soon and colonize space. Paul Kingsworth, who wrote "The Space Race is Over", thinks that humans should not even bother with space colonization and focus with our current environmental problems. Finally Peter Diamandis, who made the video "Our Great Next Leap", thinks that it is highly possible for humans to go to space commercially and colonized in space soon.
2. Neil Greenfieldboyce uses interviews from people on both sides of the argument to support his neutrality. Paul Kingsworth uses small quotes from experts and authors, he also uses facts of human nature, current environmental problems, and facts from the past ( when the first cultural emergence of the whole space race, travel, and colonization.) Peter uses information from companies and math to support his argument that humans can go to space and colonize soon.
3. Neil's form and style of writing of his piece contributes to his respective tones and arguments tone because he uses evidence from both sides to show how neutral he feels about the subject. Paul uses his past experiences, quotes from experts, and his word choice selection contributes to the nature of their argument and respective tone; with his past experiences, quotes from experts, and his word choice selection create a negative respective tone and argument tone too. Peter uses math, current events, and information from other sites and organizations to create a positive respective and argument tone for space travel.
4. Peter Diamandis' opinion aligns the most with mine because I am very optimistic that humans will be able to colonize space and travel there without having pay expensive fees. I feel this way because in the past eighteen years we have made exponential growth in rocket technology; we went from manually flying and landing space craft, but now we have remote control spacecraft that can land themselves.

The effects of technological processes explained in the video, were how once we realized we could measure time, someone asked "What else can we measure?"

1.) The Jetsons seem to have a perfect life, absolutely nothing wrong, no one is thinking about changing anything because it is so great. In "Autumntime" people were knew about the tree and the narrator them self wanted to keep the tree because it made the air crisper and it made them happy. So the narrator did not want the tree to get taken down and replaced as an insurance building. So narrator took a acorn to change the outlook of the future.
2.) The idea of automation and technology in the home looks so appealing to our eyes because technology makes things easier for us to do. So people want technology in their houses so they do not have to do the labor or chores around the house. Like the vending machine example the video gave people sometimes do not feel like cooking so that would be a great way to not have to cook just push a button and it comes straight to you.
3.) The 1960 video shows the positive outcome of technology advancements where "Autumntime" shows the negative aspects of advancing in the technology field. So would we want live with nothing but machines that could possibly take over our lives?

1. The video and the story's description of what it is going to be or look like when the world ends is pretty close in detail. There is dying dogs, and fires, and ashes covering everything. There are no people anymore, all have died from the initial strike. The setting is dark and sad and gross and disturbing in both. In both the video and in the short story nature reclaims the earth eventually.

2. The most surprising thing I heard in the video was that after all the fires die down the entire earth will reach complete blackness. It's crazy to think about the earth completely blacked out.

1. The mood of the video Julia Roberts narrates is very intimidating. It says how nature will go on, and evolve no matter what even if humankind cannot mold to the new lifestyle. The earth, nature, the trees, the oceans, all of it will shape so it can continue on.

2. Certain elements that create the intimidating mood are her voice, the music, the images, the video clips, the pauses in between her words and sentences. Also when she says "I don't really need people, but people need me," that was the most intimidating line in the entire video. That line makes you feel about 2 inches tall. The whole video makes you, as an individual feel miniscule.

3. The purpose of the video is to show you no matter what we do to the earth it is only going to affect us in the long run. Nature can revive itself no matter what the condition. Nature is more powerful than man, it can rebuild itself without the need of humans. Humans need other humans to reproduce. Nature will alway rebuild, no matter what.

4. This video is very similar to "There Will Come Soft Rains" the poem says the same thing. Nature won't merely notice if humans are gone. Even though mankind isn't there to plow and maintain the plants it is still going to thrive and live on without humans. Humans need nature to survive, but nature is just fine probably better without humans.

1. The tone of this spoken word piece is overpowering. You are so overpowered by the facts, and the tough realization that is right in front of your face.

2. The tone of this video is establish in audience connection, imagery, the realization of it all happening right in front of us. This video overpowers what the world has blinded you with and makes you realize how small you are in the worlds path, and it makes you see how everything plays a part in everything.

3. The purpose of this video is to show us if we're so "wise", the humans have taken the thing we depend on add ruined it. Humans are really what decide the future of the earth. If we don't cherish it and preserve it, it may not be here in the next four-hundred years. The future of the earth depends on humans, and it's up to us if we want to keep it.

4. The message of this video is achieved by making us feel small, and making us feel meaningless, and then saying how even though we're three seconds we still decide on the earth's future. The video makes the main points when listing all the ways humans have already started to break down the earth and if we don't stop know we won't have much more time to to try and save it.

1.) The human race is driving species to extinction, with all the pollution and bad things that we do to the earth. Another event that is causing species to die is lack of biodiversity, which is the cause of the assortment or variation of life.
2.) All human activities, like cutting down trees are bringing the sixth mass extinction closer and closer. Cutting down a tree could be breaking down a home to a animal, or destroying a food supply and even a hiding spot for animals. This is why any little thing could effect many different animals or insects majorly.
3.)The article "Why are Bees
Vanishing?" emphasizes that we rely on bees to pollinate plants. Which controls the vegetation, and we are killing them and we do not even know exactly how or why. "Coming: The Sixth Mass Extinction" article emphasizes the statement we rely on nature with how our next mass extinction will be in 300 years. Which is not even that far off considering how many years the last mass extinctions were. The species of diverse animals are getting forgotten and we as a community will not realize this until it is too late.

1.) Humans are causing the sixth mass extinction by habitat destruction, solely just killing, fishing, harvesting and poaching are all examples in the video. The global warming is speeding up because we are using our natural resources all the time.
2.) We are causing our own doomsday how can this not be negative? We are killing other species which is going to cause us to die off because we depend on them.
3.) No, we probably are aware of it but never think about it or really care because we are all super selfish and greedy.
4.) Once again we are aware but just do not care because we think of ourselves too much. We are too wrapped up in minor problems of our own to even give the slightest attention to others. I highly doubt we care about the world because we all think "Oh I am going to be dead before then anyways," which just goes to show we do not even care about our future generations. Thanos knows what he is doing.
