This is displayed in the film ‘Rabbit Proof Fence’ to show the film convention of subtitles to help represent the values of the Australian culture. The film convention is used to create meaning for the audience to demonstrate what Molly’s mother is saying about the spirit bird in their indigenous language. The convention of subtitles helps the audience to understand the Australian identity because, the message of the image demonstrates people having a strong connection to their environment and nature by using the spirit bird and showing us that the spirit bird is important to the aboriginal culture and also helps us to see that aboriginal people have a strong bond with nature.
