Here she is having to protect herself and take care of others who don't seem to appreciate her. Therefore she has done her very best and is satisfied. In Emersons excerpt he says that a man is relieved when he has done his best and put  his heart into it.

He was a successful artist who sold his paintings and many of them are famous today. It is widely known that Gogh cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute. Also he suffered from schizophrenia and depression which led him to commit suicide. He was a very talented individual who just seemed to be misunderstood by everyone.

People want to be like others and aren't very individualistic in thought. Many people conform to certain groups which docent make for a very individualistic society. We can over come this by being ourselves and being creative.
