Caring
"Sometimes you just got to know when to give up some things...and hold on to what you got ..." p. 140
Explanation: This quote explains how Mama is caring because she knows that the family has been having issues. She says "hold on to what you got" because you don't want to loose something. For example when mama got alot of money from her husband because he was dead.she didn't want to spend it on little things that weren't necessary. she used it for things like buying a house because they were living in a place with no room. She also knows that sometimes its not good to start something when you're in a tough place because, it might never work or go to your expectations. It's probably best to just wait when you have everything taken care of.

Wise
“I seen…him…night after night…come in …and look at that rug…and then look at me…the red showing in his eyes…the veins moving in his head…I seen him grow thin and old before he was forty… working and working and working like somebody’s old horse…killing himself…and you—you give it all away in a day--.” p.129
Explanation: Mama is saying this to Walter because he spent it on something that was a dream for a long time. When mama gave him all the money because she though he was going to do something beneficial instead of spending it in one day. Mama is wise because, she knows that the family is poor and was living a home with not a lot of room. Walter was only thinking of himself once he got the money in his hands, and how he was going to accomplish getting the liquor store he's been speaking of for months. Mama was trying to tell Walter the moment he got the money to spend it wisely because you might need that money later on. This quote shows how after mama warned him he did not listen because most of the is gone.

I think mama is a benevolent person she was helping the family a lot because she had money to get them a new home. She gave good advice when someone of them truly needed it like Ruth and Walter. For example when Ruth wanted to get an abortion and she didn't know what to tell Walter. Or when Walter didn't know if he wanted to take the money from linder but he ended up taking the house instead of taking the money. If it weren't for mamas good choices Walter probably would've took the money from linder or even worse they would've kept making bad choices. Beneatha probably would still be trying to decide which guy to be with. Mama is also a nice person because she gave money for groceries and taught Walter how to start being a good example for his son Travis.

Mama is a wise mother because, she gives good advice to Walter about what to do with the money. She mainly gives Walter advice that he needs to start being a good example to Travis because Walter typically would go out to drink and come back drunk. Another one is Walter would consistently get into a argument to Ruth about the liquor store or about money. You can tell mama was successful because, she learned a lot of things through her life and she had money to afford things later on in life the Walter and Ruth were struggling to get.

To sunlit days and wandering hills
With skies that reach forever
Clear air and joy to cure all ills
And love that leaves you never
No matter where your footsteps reach
Throughout your every day
The living things around will teach
And guide you on Life's way!

This explains how nice mama is because she always gave really good advice to beneatha, walter, and ruth when no one gave good advice. She also gave them a start to there lives. For example when she bought them a house so they could have more room and travis doesnt have to sleep on the sofa. In the Poem it says "No matter where your footsteps reach
Throughout your every day
The living things around will teach
And guide you on Life's way!" this can show that mama taught Walter how to start being a better father and,Beneatha to trust herself and listen to what her heart says. Mama is also nice because she helped with financial issues. When Travis wanted to go on a field trip and Walter and Ruth didn't have the money but mama payed for it and payed for the groceries that they couldn't really afford.

The lyrics to this song compares to mama because she lost her husband and no one can ever replace how she felt about her husband. She thought he was a good and successful man and even when he died she still find it hard to move on. The song nothing compares 2 U was an example of how she felt about her husband that she still grieves over it and wish he was still there. The lyric that says "I said nothing can take away these blues" is the way mama feels everyday when she thinks about her husband. Even though she lost her husband she tries to keep him in her heart.

A theme in the book was the apartment they were living in. " Its furnishings are typical and undistinguished and their primary feature now is that they have clearly had to accommodate the living of too many people for too many people for too many years-- and they are tired. You can tell in the book the setting because it is describing the place that they are living in. This clearly gives you a bit of a background what kind of apartment they are living in and what time period. It is crowded and the furniture is like every other furniture its not new and its not old but its been there for some time. Since its crowded you can tell the apartment pretty small. It says "they have clearly had to accommodate the living of too many people for too many years" this explains its been crowded for a long time.
