Its function is to allow a person to travel to different floors of a building in a much faster time than walking up stairs. Its features generally consist of hand-railing for people to hold onto for balance, and a range of buttons to select what level of the building you'd like to visit, an option to close or open the doors, and there should be an 'emergency stop' button in case something goes wrong.
Being essentially closed off from the rest of the public inside a lift, its unintentional usage could also be to make yourself look good. As in, tidying your hair, tucking in your shirt, rubbing a stain off your shirt, just little things like that that people are mildly embarrassed to do out in public.

Due to such short session times in the lift (I'd assume lift sessions range from 5-100 seconds), the range of alternative uses must be short and sharp processes. 
As I mentioned in the appraisal, the unintentional use of a lift is to freshen yourself up and look good, well why not emphasize that possibility in a new-look lift? 
We don't have much space to work with in a lift, and floor space cannot be toyed with as lifts are often quite crowded, we shouldn't disrupt the main functionality of the lift by making the space any  smaller. 
My proposal is miniature vending machine type devices on the walls of the lift to help you look and feel your best, for example: 
$1 or $2 coin slot for 3 sprays of cologne/perfume from the wall of the lift, providing easy access to the wrists and neck.
$1 or $2 coin slots for chewing gum, mints, lozenges or Listerine breath strips.
$1 or $2 coin slot for an extremely small bottle/can of deodorant or hand sanitizer.
Multiple mirrors in the lift so you can sort out whatever needs to be sorted out like your hair or clothing for instance. 
Lastly, though you can get a drink or a snack from regular vending machines all over the place, maybe a miniature snack/drink vending machine would be handy for a finishing touch once someone is tidied up and ready to go. Perhaps only water and fruit or muesli bars, healthy options that are also small enough to fit into a miniature wall vending machine.

Also, the issue of a lift that I raised in the appraisal was people potentially feeling claustrophobic, so to combat this, there should be a window or two in the lift. It needs to only be one or two windows as that keeps it a private space still, and if you have the floor see-through, that would ignite another fear, vertigo.

I brainstormed for a while how to make a lift better, knowing that it'd have to involve very fast paced activities as lift sessions don't last long, and that helped me narrow down the list of possibilities quite quickly. Once I decided upon the idea of a refreshment station essentially, the ideas kept coming to me on what else I could add, and how. I feel like it's a pretty perfect solution to the lift if we were trying to make it better, changes have to be subtle as the main concern of a lift (apart from functionality) is space, and we can't disrupt the space required for peoples standing room. ]]> 2017-08-01 12:22:24 UTC https://padlet.com/mw_miller93/x1qh47i3y4bv/wish/179851723
