Using school-wide and classroom research-based positive behavioral supports for achieving important social and learning outcomes.

Positive behavioral support promotes a more positive school climate, safer learning environments, and more trusting and respectful student-teacher relationships. With positive behavior support, students learn about appropriate behavior just as they learn about math or science. PBS is an effective strategy for all grade levels and ages. By promoting positive behavior it can build confidence and social skills, which will lead to achieving learning/academic goals. PBS can increase the teacher’s ability to deliver effective instruction and provide all the support the student needs. Positive behavior support strategies are considered effective when interventions result in success, and the enhancement of positive social interactions in the classroom and can follow the student from K-12. This particular quote has resonated with me because of the impact it has on the student's academic and social ability, if educators (district-wide) provide PBS, this can support the student in all aspects of their education and can follow them through adulthood.

Challenging all school staff to change the way in which they have traditionally worked across all school settings.

Education is constantly changing and it's important we are adapting to those changes in order to set up our students for academic success. Challenging school staff can help teachers improve on their skills and knowledge. Teachers can improve on instruction, resources, engagement, classroom management, etc. Challenging staff to change the way they have worked can also be fun for them and drive them out of their old routine. When teachers have fun, students have fun! Education is constantly changing and we cannot remain stagnant!

“MTSS focuses on all students in education contexts.”

No student should be left behind excepted to figure out their own education by themselves, and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports ensures that each individual student is getting the resources and help they need in succeeding in education. Part of teaching is ensuring ALL students feel supported and are getting adequate differentiation the their core instruction in their student-centered learning. With the right resources and aids, students will feel successful and appreciated in their learning environments, and therefore be more engaged in their learning.

“Enabling a paradigm shift for providing support and setting higher expectations for all students through intentional design and redesign of integrated services and supports.”

MTSS refers to a framework for support in all levels of instruction that is systemically in place to help and aid ALL students succeed. MTSS focuses on ALL students and their individual needs in education contexts. Through intentional design and redesign of integrated services and supports, ALL students are may receive the same opportunities of learning, but in ways that are specific to their learning. Instead of the old standard framework for providing support, MTSS enables a paradigm shift with many options and tier levels that provide opportunities through intentionally and redesigning instruction. This sentence resonated with me the most, because as a child, I learned best through trial and error. If i did not get it right the first time, I redesigned the assignments in my head in a way that best supported my way of learning, because the support that I needed according to my specific learning wasn’t provided. With out the support from my teacher’s instruction, I was able to become successful and reach the high expectations that were set for All of the students.
