It plays an annoying sound to let people know there is a fire in the building and also flashes a bright light to let people who cant hear know there is a fire. These are required in all schools due the the disaster that happened at the triangle shirtwaist factory. A fire broke out on the 8th floor on the building there was a telephone that connected the 8th and the 10th floor but there was no way to contact the 9th floor. Once the people on the 9th floor realized there was a fire there was little they could do the doors to the stairwell down were locked and the person with the key was already out of the building. This led to the people on the 9th floor either jumping out of the building to escape the fire or be burnt alive. In total 146 people died that day. This disaster caused the Sullivan-Hoey Fire Prevention Law to be passed which forced workplaces to add more fire safety. Its job is to inform people about what they should and shouldn't do with alcohol. But from 1920 -1933 alcohol was banned in America. This was a bad time in America not only because of the great depression but also because of the rise of illegal saloons that would serve illegally made alcohol to people. Some of this alcohol was not made properly and would lead to blindness and other problems. That was until 1933 when Franklin D  Roosevelt removed the 18th amendment which ended prohibition and replaced it with the 21st amendment . This was positive for America as there was no longer poorly made alcohol in circulation but now alcohol was being legally served so it was being taxed again. This is from the social security act which provided money to the elderly and was signed by president Franklin D Roosevelt  This has had a positive effect on the American people as before the social security act a lot of old people lived in poverty this was due to the fact that they were too old to work and had few ways to gain income. This allows minors to work for businesses as long as they are 14 years or older. This permit is here to protect me from dangerous working conditions through the Fair Labor Standards Act which says that children under 16 cannot work in mines, in manufacturing, or during school hours. The act was signed by Franklin D Roosevelt in 1938. This Act was a positive change for the American society and was very important for improving the working conditions of minors. Lastly the government cares for its people with the 21st amendment lowering crime rate and getting rid of unsafe alcohol.
