There are 2 main ways in which governments respond to diversity - Assimilation & Integration.

Assimilation refers to a policy in which immigrants are expected to adopt the beliefs and practices of the majority group in the host country.

Objective: no differentiation between immigrants and locals

Integration refers to a policy in which immigrants retain their unique identities, while forging a common ground with groups already living in the host country.

Objective: immigrants and locals are distinct from each other, but share certain common behaviours/characteristics

I think the French are practicing Assimilation. The French are forcing their beliefs over others where they are not part of their own cultural group anymore but just french.

I think we practice Intergration in Singapore. We are able to practice our religious beliefs and practices in Singapore with many various different people with different religous belief without having to lose our own sense of identity, practices and beliefs. We also have many places where we are able to practice our religous beliefs such as temples or having celebrations for events such as Christmas .
