After reading "Hello my name is" by Jason Kim and Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani , both pieces shared a very similar theme which was don't be ashamed for who you are, but embrace it.For example, in the novel written by Jason Kim when he was a little kid he stated "Why didn't anyone look, sound, or act like me?". In the novel written by Nidhi Chanani ,Priyanka was ashamed when a girl said to her "Whatcha drawing thrift store?", so i feel as if Jason and Priyanka both didn't like for who they were. The evidence in both pieces help the audience understand that in order to have a true understanding on how foreign's from other countries feel when they're constantly feeling ashamed and different from everyone then one must learn for themselves of becoming something or someone they're not and realize there is no shame of being who you truly are and appreciate your culture.

You do not have to change a thing." showing that he is now confident in being a Korean American. In Pashmina Priyanka goes by the name Pri throughout the book because shes scared that Americans will not be able to pronounce her Indian name, but in the very end of the book she says "Call me Priyanka." showing that she is now more confident in herself.

After reading the memoir,"Hello My Name is" by Jason Kim and Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani both selections share a common theme, you dont have to change who you are to be accepted. For example,Jason Kim struggles at first wanting to be normal so he tries to change who he is but then he later states,"Keep your name. You do not have to change a thing".While Pryanka's situation is different she also feels like she doesn't fit in and needs to change because of that and in the book it states,"I believe that she prefers to be called Pri".But as the book goes on she accepts who she is and where she came from and she states,"You can call me Pryanka"Both "Hello My Name is" and Pashmina help the audience understand that its ok to be yourself and you dont have to change to fit in.No 2 people are the same and no matter where you came from or who you are you are special and important.

After reading the memoir, "Hello, My Name is" by Jason Kim and the novel Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani both share the same theme, one must experience struggles in order to find out who they want to be.For example, Jason Kim experienced identification struggles being a Korean boy moving to America,as he states,"I committed the two worst sins that a Korean son could possibly commit; I stopped speaking Korean and stopped eating Korean food." In the graphic novel,Priyanka's struggles didn''t necessarily come from being Indian in American, but wanting to know more about her Indian culture, she stated," I feel like it will help me understand"more about who she is and where she comes from. The evidence in both pieces shows that the audience understands that in order to truly experience what life is like from a different perspective and how they thought they must change them self's to fit in and how they think people want to see them, weather it is how they dress, what they eat or where there from they get to see that their struggles of self discovery will lead them to under stand where they belong and who they want to be in the real world not other peoples expectations.

Both pieces show the reader that it is okay to be different than everyone else. Everyone is different one way or another so instead of hiding this and trying to fit in with the crowd you should embrace it. In both of these passages the main character changes their name in order to fit in and in Jason's case he changed everything about himself just to fit in only to later realize that being different is a good thing.

After reading the memoir " Hello My Name is..." by Jason Kim and the graphic novel Pashmina, by Nidhi Chanani I have seen that both selections share the theme, don't change who you are for others. For example, Jason Kims memoir when he moved to america he learned to accept his culture, he states,"One day I hope teachers will say, Keep your name you don't have to change a thing". In the graphic novel Priyanka states in the beginning of the novel, " You can call me Pri, it might be easier" then later states, "You can call me Priyanka" They both originaly didnt like their names but came to accept them. The evidence from both of these pieces help the audience understand that in order to live life loving yourself, you have to accept who you are. One must see themselves as a person, not a pencil mark to be erased and re-written. You might not fully see that other people wouldn't still be here if they didn't care about who you are. Everyone is judged in a different way, yet only a portion accept it and move on. We don't need to change for others because the people that love you, they love you for a reason.

For instance, Jason Kim went through a lot of personal identity struggles since he was in fact a Korean moving into America for the first time, he states, "Keep your name. You don't change anything" Since he wasn't comfortable being who he truly was (3). While in the graphic noval, Priyanka's struggles didn't come from her being an Idian girl living in America, but that she wanted to know more about her culture when her mom was refusing to tell her about the past, "I believe she prefers to be called Pri" says one of the lady's (6). With this in mind, both pieves help the audience understand that in order to fully accept yourself and your culture, One must learn to except theirself's to then be accepted by the world and society. As can be seen by the quotes ¨I commited the two worst sins that a Korean son could possibly commit:I stopped speaking Korean and i stopped eating Korean food¨ in paragraph 15 of ¨Hello My Name Is¨ as well as ¨He doesn´t need a baby¨ on page 27 of Pashmina. Both excerpts show the character in their struggle. In Jason Kim´s situation he is rejecting his past culture and his race, while Priyanka is praying to Lord Shakti to take away her uncles baby so he would be able to spend time with her. In all, the evidence in both pieces shows the audience that the characters went through struggle to finally figrue out who they are.

After reading the memoir'' Hello my name is '' by Jason Kim and graphic novel Pashmina by NIdhi Chanani both pieces share the common theme of, one must expierince stuggles to discover who they are. For example , Jason Kim expierences struggles with personal identity coming from South Korea to America, he states,'' I learned to hate being Asian. I wanted desperetely, more than anything, to be white.'' While in Pashmina Prikanya struggles to learn more about her Indian culture. Pg. 80'' Why India'' '' I feel it will me understand.'' The evidence in both pieces helps the audience understand that in life thre are struggles like being different or struggle to know more of your culture. In order to have a non struggling life you have to learn to accept it and embrace your true identity to show you belong in this world.

After reading the memoir, "Hello my name is" by Jason Kim and the graphic novel Pashmina by Nidhi Chanani both selections share the common theme, things aren't always the way they seem to appear. For example, in Pashmina, Priyanka finally visits India after begging her mother to, but it wasn't the way she envisioned it. She states that "It's so different." While In the memoir, "Hello my name is " Jason did have that similar problem, but in a different scenario. Instead, he modified himself to fit in with the herd. He states that, "It was genuinely baffling to think... I hated myself for so long" after realizing what he's done. In essence, both pieces give the audience an understanding that people will often believe something will be a certain way based off how they perceive it, and that they won't truly understand until they have experienced that reality.

One working on finding out who she is and the other figuring out how to accept and embrace his Asian ID. For example, In the graphic novel, Pashmina. Priyanka struggles were the same as Jason people couldn't pronounce her name correctly. While in “hello, My Name Is.” Jason Kim had experienced personal identity struggles, having a Korean name, then realizes he shouldn't have to change his name. The evidence in both pieces shows that the audience understands that in order to actually experience what life is like from a different perspective and how they thought they must change themselves.
