         <description><![CDATA[<div>Jon was easy to watch.&nbsp; He exuded confidence and taught me that we can accomplish more than what we need to in an interesting, innovative way with much less time using eduprotocols.&nbsp; Skills don't always need to be taught in order and build upon each other A-Z.&nbsp; In an effort to save time, skills can be taught using protocol and the repitition of those skills allow us more time to dig deeper and produce higher quality results and a higher level of learning and thinking.&nbsp; Once the protocol is learned, we actually save time and can incorporate more into our lessons and deviate from the norm in an effort to spark interest.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This video was mostly about how to incorporate technology into your classroom as an effective learning tool instead of just using it on top of what we do to create a finished project.  Technology can be used to  not only show literacy, but to create fluency by making thinking visible, providing feedback and sharing work collaboratively.  There are many apps that teachers can use in order to do this! </div>]]></description>

         <title>At the PK level for example, calendar time can become very monotonous for me as the teacher as well as the students.  As my students have learned the routine of calendar, I have been able to build on basic skills making it more fun and interesting, so I kind of already feel like I am doing this to a point.  Instead of just counting, we count in Spanish as well.  We talk about yesterday, today and tomorrow.  Instead of just reciting the 4 seasons, we talk about what happens to our weather and our environment during those seasons.  We don&#39;t just learn our numbers, we learn number sense and math sentences.  We use manipulatives to show and demonstrate number sentences.  So, I am able to get more in depth with my instruction once the children learn the protocol of calendar.  I am excited to see where else I can incorporate eduprotocols!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Kim was a breath of fresh air!&nbsp; It is so easy to become frustrated with the repetition of every day life, especially when you are dealing with 18 4-year old's on a daily basis.&nbsp; Her video reminded me of a saying I have always referred to:&nbsp; "In order to give to others, you have to be whole yourself."&nbsp; Quantity is not always quality.&nbsp; Sometimes less is more...These are all things we need to remind ourselves of.&nbsp; I do believe that a good producer has to be well rounded and whole.&nbsp; If we aren't happy and satisfied in our personal lives it is difficult to produce or be effective in our careers.&nbsp; We need to take care of ourselves and give each area of our lives the time and nurturing it deserves in order to be effective as teachers and human beings in general.&nbsp; Finding a balance is key!</div>]]></description>

         <title>This video is particularly important to me as a PK teacher.  For most of the students I teach, PK is the first educational experience of their lives.  For many of these children it is the best part of their day because they come from &quot;at-risk&quot; homes for various reasons.  I know how important it is for me to be nurturing, fun, upbeat and energetic and basically happy for these kids.  Not always easy as crazy as life can get!  After watching Kim though, I will give myself &quot;permission&quot; to take time for me so that I can be what I need to be for my family and my students! </title>

         <title>This video was a little challenging for me as a PK teacher.  My students are basically computer illiterate at this level, so I started to think about this in more of a way that I could use it to collaborate with other teachers in more of a professional development way.  I do however feel my job as a PK teacher is to expose my students to computers and help them begin their journey to becoming computer literate.    I do see some ways that I can incorporate these apps as teacher guided and whole group activities such as creating a classroom book using Book Creator, perhaps generating student porfolios through Seesaw, and using Google maps for virtual learning about the world we live in.  We attach an animal to each letter and I am excited to use Google Maps to visit native areas that these animals live in.  It will be exciting for my students to see places they most likely will never be able to visit. </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I enjoyed watching Pooja!  Although she is a cognitive scientist, hearing the research and statistics to learning and remembering was very interesting.  It was very refreshing to hear about using retieval as a learning tool and not just for assessment.  We hear so much these days about teaching for the test and quite frankly, that is not what it should be about!  I loved her "brain dumps" and sketchnoting which seems to be a way of personalizing note taking in a way to make it stick in our students minds rather than just tedious note taking which obviously is ineffective.  Using retrieval as a learning tool is brilliant especially when you remove the stressful assessment element.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Again, as a PK teacher, how do I use this with my students?  I loved the Kahoot idea which we can do as a whole or small group.  The verbal and visual pairing and game aspect of this is a great activity for reviewing skills.  Making it an easy game for young students can be fun and interesting!  This is a great activity for rainy days without recess!  Simple verbal recall can be turned in to a game at circle time also, making review much more fun!</title>

         <title>Up to this point, I have not really felt a huge need for myself as a teacher to be as technology savvy as an upper grade teacher.  As I have stated in previous entries, it is difficult to incorporate these things into a PK classroom and our screen time is very restricted by NCPK guidelines.  However, I can use many of these things as teacher tools for myself and learning about these applications has helped me understand what my own children at home are using at school.  I now have some idea of how they are using these tools for their own learning.  In an effort to come full circle and tie this Summit together as meaningful for me,  this has helped me become more well rounded personally and professionally.  Eric does, however, use some very basic examples that I feel I can use with my students, such as using Google slides and  manipulatives to build a snowman, a jack-o-lantern, a turkey, etc.  Although my students could not produce a story, we could sit together as a class as I pull each student&#39;s snowman up on the smart board and they could tell me his name and why they think that is fitting for the snowman they built.  They could also do this in small groups to promote social interaction and problem solving.  I also loved the emoji generator for similar reasons!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I want to be a kid in his class!&nbsp; He has got to be the most amazing teacher!&nbsp; What middle school aged kid would not want to walk into a classroom that transforms into an almost virtual reality through gaming?&nbsp; How cool!&nbsp; Michael talks about providing a risk rich environment that is both motivational and inspiring, but not too easy and not too hard through gaming.&nbsp; Learning through play - the most basic way to learn.&nbsp; His games vary from mini games to whole unit games.&nbsp; They build anticipation, promote peer bonds, create adrenaline, curiosity, etc.&nbsp; He can identify what type of learners he has by the way his students game.&nbsp; This is such an exciting way to teach because what kid these days doesn't have some type of gaming system at home?</div>]]></description>

         <title>This is one video that I would like to further explore to find out exactly how to incorporate into a PK classroom.  Even at the age of 4-5, my students have used a tablet or at the very least Mom&#39;s phone to play some sort of game.  I can easily incorporate this into the social structure of my classroom in my centers like dramatic play, science, etc.  I now want a center specifically for gaming that teaches basic skills like letter/sound recognition, numbers, shapes, colors, etc.  I know these games exist, but I want to find the best!  NCPK has limits on screen time and now I&#39;m thinking these limits need to be revised based on this video! </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>While this video was not the most exciting of the group, perhaps it was one of the most important for me.&nbsp; Sarah talks about feeling isolated as an educator and using twitter among other apps as a pipeline to communication with other educators.&nbsp; She tells you how to create a twitter account and how to pace yourself getting started and kind of weed through the masses to find your niche.&nbsp; It's all about stepping outside your comfort zone and connecting and building relationships with those that have similar interests.</div>]]></description>

         <title>For me, she hit the nail on the head!  I am an isolated educator!  I am the only PK classroom in my building, so this perhaps could be the most helpful video for me to get started building a social network with teachers that can help me make all of these wonderful ideas fit my level of students.  I love all of these strategies, but figuring out how to make it fit a PK level is challenging.  A strong social network with other PK teachers would be wonderful!  Next stop...Twitter account!</title>

         <title>I was hired mid  year and was not offered a Chromebook through my county.  After seeing this video though, I will be asking to have one.  Again, as a PK teacher, there aren&#39;t many ways I could use a Chromebook in my classroom because my students don&#39;t have access to them, but I can surely use them as a teacher tool.  I did LOVE the voice typing option, which could make it more user friendly for my 4 year old&#39;s!  I can&#39;t wait to share these tips with my own children at home!  They each have a school issued Chromebook and maybe this will make their school work a little less painful!</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love the class that Don has created for his students and I'm sure his students love having the opportunity to be in his class.  He allows his students to reach out to others all over the world to learn.  He calls this open source learning and the opportunities are endless!  He allows his students to go outside the traditional realms of the classroom to learn  through podcasts, blogs, businesses, etc.   His students connect with people that aren't always educators, but successful people with not so traditional ideas about education.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>One of the students in Don&#39;s class is literally developing a sustainable school in Ghana.  It is amazing that he has been allowed to create something he is passionate about and make it happen.  I think mostly what this video is trying to tell us is that we need to sometimes challenge ourselves and our way of thinking even if we disagree with non-traditional teaching/learning.  It provides an endless world of possibility!  I&#39;m not sure how this plays into PK, but I do see how this mindset can open things up for me as a teacher and how I view my profession.</title>
