Bessie Smith was somebody that sang about emotional responses to everyday events and used her broad singing range to reach to her audience. Somebody from today that does the same thing with her voice is Christina Aguilera, she sang Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" song as a tribute for her at the 2017 AMA's. The Great Gatsby was a story written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and it explained how life was for some people and what the main characters went through in their lives demonstrating how this is possible for people to be going through the same thing. Today, there are so many genres of books and different reading styles created it isn't exactly similar to the way writing was back then.
