         <title>Genre Study Thoughts for Level 1:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>* What are the kids going to get out of it?  They may be unfamiliar with the whole genre- what do you want them to take away? <strong><em>Know your end point for the study </em></strong>e.g the idea that feminism is creeping into the scoff genre. Then all the decisions you make from there will help lead to that.<br><br>* Think carefully about the significance of the texts you choose, both primary and supplemental. <strong><em>Link conventions in these texts to the outcome of the overall genre study</em></strong>- the WHY is this significant.<br><br>* Use theory to help raise the level of discussion for Excellence.<br><br>* Use blogs/articles/fandom musings/quotes and interviews from actors and directors to help gather secondary evidence, which students can then drop into their essays.<br><br>*Conventions you choose could be binary or work alongside each other- similarities, <strong><em>connecting in theory </em></strong>such as audience reception theory, feminism.          <title>Genre Study Thoughts for Level 2:</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>* Check what the <strong><em>examiners from previous years</em></strong> have said!<br>* The <strong><em>three aspects link together- </em></strong>and can be talked about in terms of their effect on each other.&nbsp; Some students can find it useful to try and discuss the three like this (mentioned in Excellence)<br>* <strong><em>Assertions of 'the future' </em></strong>need to be built into the argument throughout- NOT as an add on at the end. Evidence should be used to support this.<br>* You <strong><em>MUST have evidence outside the text</em></strong><br>* <strong><em>Complexities</em></strong> of the genre discussed- e.g who is affected by decisions made within a genre, who is affected by over saturation of super hero films for example.<br>* <strong><em>Engaging with the statement</em></strong>- referring back to them within the essays. Key words from it being used.<br>* High performing genres tend to be Sci Fi, Westerns, Horror, Vampire, Zombie.<br><br>* <strong>Merit=</strong> How and why, <strong>Excellence=</strong> effects/implications<br><br>* Be careful with <strong>sufficient evidence</strong>- make sure students give enough detail (director, year released, brief explanation of what film is about, quotes)<br><br>*<strong>Sentence starters </strong>can be useful- e.g "This change came about because....", "This is an important commercial consideration for producers because.....", "A concern for documentary film makers is how to transform keyboard activism into a catalyst for change...."<br><br>*Relate to <strong>theory-</strong> e.g Two step flow theory<br><br></div>]]></description>
