Compelling Question:
How do wealth and financial stability affect the quality of education received?

I broke the compelling questions into different supporting questions to help me research and answer my compelling question. My compelling questions are designed to connect and research my enduring issue of the correlation between education quality and income. My supporting questions are designed to specify and elaborate on my compelling question. For example, I created supporting question one to find if there is a correlation between income and education. My second supporting question helps me find my target income level and the poverty line. My third and fourth question helps me find strategies to help low-income students when designing my product. My fifth question helps me find design ideas and concepts to help make my product affordable.
Supporting Questions:
1. What are the standards and chances of making colleges in China associated with income?

2. What is generally considered as financially unstable?

3. How to reduce price for living for a college student?

4. How do low-income students attend colleges?

5. How to reduce the price of maintaining and building facilities?

When creating the structure for my research process, my compelling and supporting questions along with my topics were crucial for defining my research direction. My first and second prompt helps me clarify, define and specify my research directions with my compelling and supporting questions. The first prompt about the supporting questions helps me understand what I'm researching. For example, my compelling of "How do wealth and financial stability affect the quality of education received?" is too broad to be researched by itself. The prompt helps me break my compelling question into parts so I can make more specific research. I use these supporting questions to create search strings for researching my topic. My supporting questions help me research specific parts that connect with my compelling question and enduring issue. For example, my second question of "What is generally considered as financially unstable?" helps me find my target income level and area. This is important when finding the specific income level would help me find a more specific target audience affected by my enduring issue. The second prompt helps me understand the topic I'm looking for through my sources. These are the keywords or topics on what I'm trying to find. For example, my topic of "Affordable Education for students from rural areas" help me find what I'm looking for when I'm researching my supporting question of "How do low-income students attend colleges?" This is useful when my topic helps me find specific research I need for answering my supporting questions. Together, the prompts help me understand and look for the correct information in my sources.

I created my supporting questions to help specify and answer my compelling questions. Throughout my research, I was able to come up with new supporting questions to answer and specify areas in my compelling questions. When I was researching, I researched my sources and realized some of my sources may have limitations. I created new supporting questions to answer other areas of my compelling question to look for more sources on that specific area. I found that some of my sources have limitations in the information I'm looking for. When I was researching my first supporting question "What are the standards and chances of making colleges in China associated with income," I found information about college acceptance and enrollment rates in China. I found information about the harsh standards for college education. I found that higher income has a positive impact on the quality of education. However, I didn't find any sources that clarified the specific income level that suffered from poverty and didn't find which areas are suffering from poverty that desires better education. So I created a new question that would help me cover the information I was looking for. I created a new supporting question: "What is generally considered as financially unstable?" I created this question to help me find a specific income level and area that I need to target for my product. Throughout researching my new supporting question, I was able to find that rural areas are suffering from poverty more than urban areas and lack the educational qualities that urban areas receive. I also found the poverty line which I should target for my product. With the new information I found with my new supporting question, I was able to clarify the location and income level of my target audience for my design.

After finding that my supporting question of " What are the standards and chances of making colleges in China associated with income?" had limitations in areas where it doesn't specify the location and target income level, I created a new supporting question of "What is generally considered as financially unstable?" After researching sources with this new supporting question, I found my target income level and area. I read an article from China Power and found that the poverty line in China is around $5.5/day. Throughout this research, I found an approximate target income level for my design. After reading another article from The Borgen Project, I found that rural areas are suffering more significantly from poverty. Urban areas have around 2.5 times higher income than rural areas. Throughout this source, I was able to find my target location which was from rural areas. In addition, I read an article from BBC and found that the poverty line for rural areas is closer to $2.2/day. I also found that rural provinces such as Jiangsu are suffering from poverty more significantly. Throughout my research with these sources, I clarified my target income level and location. This affects the research because it clarifies my target audience so it helps me with finding more specific design ideas and concepts that relate to my target audience. The sources I use also help me create more useful ideas and supporting questions. Throughout the source work, I can repeat the process to create more insightful supporting questions that connect better with my compelling question and enduring issue.
