The base of Golubac Fortress is adapted to the configuration of the terrain. It comprises the Palace and 9 towers connected by ramparts. Given its architecture and the time of construction, it is apparent that the fortification is divided into two main parts: the Inner Fort, with the tallest Donjon or defence tower, better known as the Hat Tower, and the Outer Fort, which was the first to come under attack of the enemies.

                 Aleksa Ž.

The fortress in Niš has a long history, dating back to the 1st century with a Roman camp. Destroyed by the Huns, Emperor Justinian I rebuilt it after 530 AD. Over the centuries, it was conquered and restored multiple times. The well-preserved walls, a blend of ancient and medieval, were constructed by the Turks in the early 18th century. Ordered by the Sultan in 1719, a strong fortress was built here to secure borders. Finally, the Ottomans gave it its current appearance in 1730 after several demolitions and rebuilds.

         Jovana S. Niš
