1)Richard felt uncomfortable shooting the innocent buck. He purposely misfires and it manages to escape.

1) When Richard goes hunting with his father and his brother, Gus. Richard is asked to kill the buck, but Richard purposely miss the buck because he did not want to harm the buck. Even though Richard knew his father will be disappointed, he still did it because he’s a kind hearted person. 

2) Richard Knight did the right thing by being kind and caring. When Mrs. Hansen shares a sad news to the class that someone has vandalised  the tavern owned by the Schermers. She asked the students to sign the card to show sympathy to Hannah.
