The Romantic young poet in the epitaph is presented as a " young unknown to Fortune and to Fame" who was generous and sincere but he was affected by melancholy. In fact the poet in this period was dominated by emotions and by doubts. He had a lot of questions but he couldn't find the answers with his intellect and his reason so he became melancholic and maturated a pessimistic view. I think that ,with the epitaph, Gray wanted people remember that he was at one with nature and God. In fact in the first linea he wrote:" resta his head upon the lap of earth". This sentence reflects the strong relation between poet and nature. Then when he says that heaven gained him a friend, he presents his interplay with God. In fact in the final line, he speaks about the bosom of God to reinforce his link with him.

I only visite the cemeteries of my village but I don't like these places. I prefer to avoid them e cause they make me very sad and melancholic. Altough I know that it's important remember the dead especially our forefathers because their memory keeps them alive. Mano people, in fact, build storied urns which present some pictures. These urns tell very interest stories so they allow usato know more about the protagonists of stories who area no longer with us. This reinforce the relationship between living and dead because we become curious to know who has preceded us, how was the world and how it was changed
