In fact the poet in this period was dominated by emotions and by doubts. He had a lot of questions but he couldn't find the answers with his intellect and his reason so he became melancholic and maturated a pessimistic view. I think that ,with the epitaph, Gray wanted people remember that he was at one with nature and God. In fact in the first linea he wrote:" resta his head upon the lap of earth". This sentence reflects the strong relation between poet and nature. Then when he says that heaven gained him a friend, he presents his interplay with God. I prefer to avoid them e cause they make me very sad and melancholic. Altough I know that it's important remember the dead especially our forefathers because their memory keeps them alive. Mano people, in fact, build storied urns which present some pictures. These urns tell very interest stories so they allow usato know more about the protagonists of stories who area no longer with us.
