I want to focus on how AP News and NPR write their stories on current events. AP News and NPR can be seen having few stories written about the same topics with the same headlines. Are these two sites producing the same content or are there some aspects that are different? This analysis is supported by articles from both sites during the time frame of September 30, 2024 to October 4, 2024.

Both sides very adequately reported on current issues that were occurring during my logging week. The week was filled with many events such as Hurricane Helene hitting the Southern states, the Israel conflict worsening, dock workers going on strike, and politics heating up. Sometimes, the articles the websites created had almost the exact headlines with similar content. Other times, these sites were reporting on similar current events but had different tactics when it came to storytelling.

The stories then lead to what has happened in the last few weeks prior to the story and the reactions from those not in the conflict. Then, the history of the conflict is broken down. Overall, readers could get similar facts from either story if they did not have a preference for AP News or NPR prior to reading.

I believe NPR wrote a better article because they had sources that were not included in the AP News article. NPR had exclusive insight from a Lebanese official and two other officials from other sides who decided to stay anonymous. This is great information to include in the story because most to all other news sources will not have these quotes. I felt like I was getting a deeper story from NPR because I was not receiving the same sources as AP News.

I also found that NPR went deeper into the story. Yes, like I said earlier, both sites has the same stories that would inform the public on current events. If someone is wanting a deeper understanding of the topic, the should go to NPR. NPR expanded on the offensive against Hezbollah to explain whether the United States will be stepping in and Israel's other conflict with Houthis in Yemen. Someone can go further than the current event with NPR.

In conclusion, I actually found the converse conclusion to my fact sheet with this Padlet. In my fact sheet, I found that one should go to AP News to find important stories right away on the main page. They do not make you search. This Padlet made me switch up and decide people should go to NPR for important story content. NPR is creating stories that include exclusive insight and facts that others are not including. This site is also expanding on current events and not just giving you what is in the headline. NPR gives the story plus side bits of information that are helpful, but not necessary, to process the story. In conclusion, AP News makes finding current news extremely easy by only highlighting the most important stories on their front page/top five stories. Conversely, NPR has the best storytelling to fully immerse the public in the top stories while giving them the most amount of facts about the event. A news gatherer should go to AP News for effortless story finding but should go to NPR for quality story finding.

I will more specifically be focusing on articles about the Israel conflict in Lebanon that both sites have posted. My main focus is on the two site's article details and sources.
