Charlie Chaplin moved to United States of America during World War One. After that, he made many popular films such as A Dog's Life and City Lights. But almost all of these films are about poor man's life, nothing political until Hitler and his Nazi Germany started World War Two in Europe. He decided to make a film, The Great Dictator, in order to awake America which still stayed out of the war only because of the Atlantic Ocean lies between them.

Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will!"
Feel, vision and language were Charlie's three ways to tell the world why it is necessary to overcome the Nazi Germany in The Great Dictator.

The Great Dictator was published on 1940, right before the U.S. joined World War Two. At that time most of the American people still believe that Axis will not effect America any time soon. Viewers divided into two sides: one side believed that American shouldn't just look on and do nothing, the other side simply think Charlie has gone "red" - a communist. Since then Charlie's social image has gone worse. But Charlie believed he did nothing wrong and he will continue do his part to fight the Axis.
