A specific quote that conveys this message is that, "There are two industries that call their customers 'users': illegal drugs and software" - Edward Tufte. Based on the arguments and evidence based claims used in the film, my thoughts on social media shifted in some ways especially in the aspect that social media developers do not care about the negativity of their creations and only care about the profits. I really dislike the concept of others having that much control over individual lives.
Not much shifted in me, I like to think that I already knew a lot of what they discussed, so my mind wasn't really changed. That being said, I didn't like social media before, so I still don't like it. I think the ethos was a very strong element, as they brought in a lot of people that could be trusted to speak on the subject.

Based on the arguments and claims provided in the film, my thoughts on social media have remained relatively the same.  I found that many of the things that they talked about in the film just did not apply to me and in many ways it was over exaggerated.  My thoughts on social media remain:  we should not let social media control our lives and only use it as a tool to improve our lives or the lives of others.  Relying on it for validation or support is a bad idea and it is important to maintain good tools outside of social media.  Also whenever we are getting information from social media it is important to also gather information from outside sources that are researched and proven to be unbiased.
I think that the strongest element of their arguments was the ethos. They brought in a lot of high ranking representatives from inside technology companies who shared personal experiences supporting their claim. This for me was the most convincing.

I see myself doing the same things she is doing, like, when she deletes the picture that didn’t get a lot of attention then posts a different picture with filters on and sees that it gets more attention and likes. Seeing it happen on the film makes me realize that, that's me worrying about what others think and like about me, that's letting social media platforms control what I should and shouldn't look like to be likeable.

Oftentimes, influencers post versions of themselves that are unrealistic, and it can be easy to forget that they edit and modify their pictures to appear a certain way. In addition, one scene in the film showed the boy being captured by the news he had seen on social media, and ended up in a bad situation. These moments resonate with me because it shows how dangerous social media can be, and how invested they are in tracking your every move.  The documentary didn't cause my views on social media to change dramatically, whoever it definitely made me more aware of the danger social media possesses. The strongest element of their arguments was the statistics showing how a large percent of teens were negatively affected by social media to the point that they cut or killed themselves. Showing the narrative of the boy who couldn't give up his phone for a week was also very effective because it showed how addictive social media can be, and made me think about how frequently I just check my phone out of boredom, and how reliant I am on it for entertainment.
