When he first came to Grantleigh and Grant's House in 2015 I wasn't quite sure what to expect until the first time we got into trouble at boarding. His unique sense of humour and sarcastic comments made the school a better place. I always got tuned for not living up to my full potential and that my brutal honesty will land me into trouble one day. His overall demeanor made maths (which was my most hated subject) one of my favorites.

I really struggled with maths and he never made me feel inadequate or feel as though it was beyond me. Whenever he had a new concept to teach us he would come up with a way to use pictures/ drawings to explain it. He really was a fantastic teacher. I had to do a semester of statistics at uni and was only able to pass because of him.

She had the most amazing and caring personality and was always willing to help, may it be academically or personally. I remember history lessons in grade 9, were always the best part of my day! Mrs Anderson was like my school mum and was really someone I could count on.

Mrs Hall was my English teacher in Grade 11 and 12 and she honestly was the best English teacher I've ever had. Her love and passion for the English language showed. She always went over and above for us and constantly pushed us to do better. She was strict but loving at the same time. Her classes were engaging and she ensured we understood everything including Shakespeare 🙂. I am currently a teacher in Thailand and I constantly think back to my classes with her. I never thought I'd pursue English in anyway because I really did not like it but by the end of my grade 12 year I had fallen in love with the language too. Her passion for teaching is out of this world. She taught us Math Lit, and she did this with the love of a mother.  She always knew when I wasn't okay, she'd ask, "My boy, are you okay?" , and that, in itself,  made me feel  a whole lot better. Mrs Abbott - Best English teacher I have ever had and will go out of her way to help, no matter what. The most caring and genuine teacher I have ever been taught by. 

 They both only ever want the best for you, and will push you to only give of your best. They honestly turn my bad days around. Mr Abbott with his sarcasm and Mrs Abbott with her quirky sense of humour. They are like my parents away from home, and have the best advice. The most caring couple, that I have so much time and respect for! 

I'm going to miss them both so much next year!

She is an amazing Accounting and EMS teacher, she knows how to make the complicated work seem more simple. Mr Cook was never actually one of my teachers, but when the bird club started, I was the only girl to join in the first term and I will never forget how attentive and caring he was. I was only in grade 3 or 4 and he was super excited to teach me all about birds. He would even come and get me out of class to show me a bird that had nested around the property, or 1 that I will never forget, the bar-throated apalis that came with a little story to remember the name. When I started my schooling at JRC I was afraid of Miss King. I was allocated to her English class in grade 10 and I dreaded my first lesson. To my surprise she was lovely and inspired us to be our best creative selves. I love the way Miss King speaks. Her command over the English language is amazing to witness. Whenever I watch a movie I can hear her voice explaining the nuances of the cinematographer's work. Mr Phungula took me from a 60% average to a 90% at the end of matric. His dedication to his learners and maths allowed for us to all grow to love the subject. I remember the day he took pictures of us to learn our names and low and behold, the next day he knew us by name. He allowed us to change our opinions of ourselves. Mrs van Der Walt is one of the most dedicated and special teachers I have had the privilege of teaching me in my life. She has a unique talent of identifying each child's needs and helping them to reach their full potential. She always has a smile on her face and no problem was ever too big for her to help with. We were out of the classroom more than in it. Experiential learning about 20 years ahead of its time. We climbed trees, we spent most of the time on a beach exploring Rocky shore zones. There was a lot of poetry and art and rounders and destroying of alien vegetation, and speaking to people and rounders and silk screening and love for the environment..... And not too much afrikaans or maths.... But I learnt lessons I've never forgotten.

She was one of the most fantastic teachers I have had. Her knowledge on Biology was incredible and she had a great way of passing this knowledge on to her students. My class went on to produce 4 medical doctors and a veterinarian out of about 20 students and I'm quite sure she played a large role in inspiring each one.

When I first came to Grantleigh I was quite a shy kid and I cried ( this is anonymous right ;) ) when my mum left me at the circle. I will never forget that Mrs vd Walt came up to me with the best smile, even though she looked like she had been running around like crazy on a busy morning. She took me to the tuckshop and bought me a chocolate, gave me a hug and said I'm going to be ok. Then she took me to a group of boys by my new class and told them that I was new and they should welcome me, she even came back later with a hat for me to wear. Anyway I am still friends with those boys today and I had the best first day. I was part of the first Zulu class to matriculate from Grantleigh. Mrs Motaung was our Zulu teacher. She pushed us and motivated us to achieve exceptional results that year. Through her methods of teaching she taught us more than just Zulu. We learnt to be confident, to strive for our goals and to always be aware of the social issues in our society.
