Today's lesson was the introduction to the music video term. I personally think that this term is going to be really fun as i enjoy learning about film. It will also help me decide if i should pursuit my future career of the film industry such as editing.
I made a mind map today helping me understand the purpose and ideas behind music videos. I think that this sheet will help me recall and think of terms i will need.
I also set up my new Padlet for this term including the visual diary and normal wall. I really like the idea of Padlet this term as i can imagine that it is going to get quite messy and unorganised without it.

I developed my knowledge of techniques in music videos. We were set the task to research 7 different music videos that contained specific techniques. I am now aware how to and why they are used. I am really fond of the camera movement and beat linked cuts. I think that this is a good way to make the song better by a lot just by simple cuts. I find that rap music videos use these techniques a lot except from animation.
I am going to use these to my advantage when shooting my music video and will try to include some of these but not all of them as it just seems messy as i saw in the music video "man child."
I am really motivated and inspired by the song i used in my main wall by Jaden Smith - Scarface. This video includes a lot of great camera angles, colours and also one scene where he changes the cloud when somebody goes past.

I really enjoyed seein behind the scenes and disliking my first project with my music video team. I think we worked really well today and finished it quite quickly slowing us to edit.
Some of the camera techniques we learnt today were high, neutral and also Dutch tilt. This really helped when we filmed our short clip.

Today I edit the video of the Harry Potter test. We were asked to make a video and pair the audio from the original clip to our video. We chose the Harry Potter video. It turned out well seen as though we didn't realise we had to have the exact audio/dialect as the video. I managed to crop the audio to fit to our lip movements as much as possible. Some parts look kind of tacky but i tried to link it up as much as i could.

It was successful and we plan to go out on Thursday to continue our series of filming.
We still need an end to our video and also some more storyline parts.
We have been including various shots and angles to create a great vibe in the video. It should be interesting as we have a bunch of fillers
I feel like we have all done a great job so far and things are lookin good and we should meet scheduals.

I stayed behind today and started to edit. I made a lot of progress in terms of the amount of clips edited to song length.
I started by organising the clips we have so far and put them into folders named; start, middle, end, fillers. This made it easier for me to edit the clips. I think that it is going well right now as i was editing whilst the other members were filming.
I also had to create a sequence so the format of the video was in high quality. I feel that this helped in rendering terms.
I did spend a lot of my time editing a certain part of the video as it required a bunch of cuts and precise timing. It was a pain!

I was given the final clips that o needed to fill up the gaps in the video and the went over the video thinking of things that I could improve.
I managed to add another technique being a playback sort of thing. To make this trippy effect, i started by copying the desired clip and moving above itself. I then made the bottom clip 50% opacity and the top 50% speed. I then cut it down to the size i wanted and continued editing.
This clip works so well due to the scenario it is fit into. It is just after he eats all of the 'drugs'.
The rest of the edit went well. I managed to render it, export it and upload it to youtube. I exported it in a high quality by adjusting the export settings.

I feel that it turned out okay and I did the best I could in terms of editing with techniques. I think that we could have improved as we did get some feed back stating that our story line is rushed and we could have slowed it down. This would have dragged our music video out and wouldn't have needed for me to cut it.
Next time when making a music video, I will take this criticism into mind and reflect on how to improve this. I really like that everyone was honest with how we could have improved this.

Final Diary Entry - 24th January 2017

First of all, I really enjoyed this experience to be in a group in which work together and get the job done. Looking around at the groups and where they are at right now, I am happy that I got out here. We did have some issues that I will talk about in a minute.
During the production of our music video, we encounter some errors and issues that we had to surpass. These involved clips that were missing and had to be re-filmed. I think this was a major hold back as it was due to miss-communication. Re-filming the gaps in the music video was a big problem and would have saved me so much time just sitting around waiting for clips.
Our team work was great as i said but we did get off to a rough start with people taking other peoples jobs such as producers filming and other people trying to edit. This did get resolved when we had one of our agendas and has seemed to stay the same. I really found this an enjoying experience due to it.
Uploading to youtube has been way but the quality has been strange. The footage was rendered as 1080p and exported as 1080p but the maximum on youtube that the video can be played in is 720p and doesn't look very good, especially compared to the video that is played whilst editing the video.
The visual diary entries have been annoying as i keep forgetting to do it and it doesn't look very neat in terms of date by date structure. I managed to catch up some what as much as i could as i looked back on the lesson plans and tried to remember what we did that day as much as i could.
Our deadlines that we made have seemed to be very good as we met all of them and finished before everyone else. I do think that i need to go over uploads and also need to do one last piece of paper work that is down to producers to do but is still not completed.
Every day we had been doing something productive no matter how long we all sat around. We spent, in total, 5 days recurring where we had 3 days written down to do that. I think that this didn't affect the end product as i was editing the footage as i got it at the end of the day after they had been recording.
Techniques i had used in my role as editing were; jump cuts ( with the beat ), warp stabilising, dual footage to blend together, adjustments for blur and opacity, creating a sequence and other basic techniques such as title screen implements. These together made the video some what interesting in my opinion.
Finally, i think that each member of the team did a great job in their role such as making sure their jobs are done. I think this made our group as efficient as possible.

My problems with video quality continued today and i could not troubleshoot it. I re-tried rendering it and also exporting in better quality settings than before and still, the best quality on youtube that it plays in is 720p. I am kinda annoyed and have tried multiple things to fix it but it still remains in 720p.
I also re uploaded it to youtube in the troubleshoot and i then proceeded in writing a new title and description that the college needs for our videos to not be strikes and taken down. It also makes the video look slightly more professional than it did before.
I think that all of our work is finished for this assignment if the producer has filled in the shot criticism sheet. That was the only task left for our group and is not that big of a job to complete. If it hasn't been done, then it will need to be brought up in a final team agenda where we discuss what we have done throughout this assignment.
Yet again, i have enjoyed this task and it has helped me understand what a media related team works like in comparison to a media related job, ( work experience ). I will definitely like to do something alike this in the future.

Today and on wednesday, our work was seen by level 2 year 2 student and also teachers. I really enjoyed this as it allowed me to develop skills i don't like to do so much such as talking in front of people. This time i wasn't very nervous as i was proud of the outcome of our group.
I am pretty sure that our video was on of the groups wont the most feedback with only two being bad and one of those two being a mistake i was meant to fix earlier. I am going to run through the things that were asked.
1. "Did you know about the shadow in the shot of the actor taking the pills?"
The answer is no. I did not see this through out all of my time editing. I also didn't appreciate the way the question was asked, The girl could have left it as what i quoted but she continued to make comments that made me feel uncomfortable about how we shouldn't have included/done this. It was very critical.
2. "How did you create the effect ager taking the pills?"
I really liked this comment as i was able to talk the boy through how i was able to make this effect happen. I started with telling him to duplicate the layers and put one on top of the other, band then to make one clip 50% opacity and the other 50% speed. The creates a clip that double backs on itself. I was really proud of this moment.
3 "How long did it take to shoot the first scene of the actor getting beaten up?"
This was actually 1 take but 3 shots were filmed of other people doing it and Louis fit the role better than every one else. This question was asked due to the response of the audience; laughing.
4. "I like how the editor cut to the beat with the actor walking down the alley way"
This made me feel good as the whole process of that took me forever as i used a trial and error technique for this. I actually missed my lunch because of this.
5. "I would have liked to see more of the stabilised shot."
Delta said she would liked to have seen more of the stabilised shot. This could have been possible but in the shot i used, I found the best part of the clip that would stabilise the shot the best. I did like the shot as well and totally agree that more would have been good to see as the colours in it look as if i colour graded where as intact i didn't!
6. "How did you stabilise the shot?"
I walked them through how it was stabilised in a detailed step by step starting with how to export into after affects and then how to stabilise and then how to export to premiere pro. I feel that this will help people in the future for their work.
7. "I liked the filler shots especially the dead flower as it shows whats next in the video."
I think that the dead flower was a good filler. The way it came around was due to our 2 second gap in our music video and we needed something to fill that space. I told the director and camera operator to go and get a filler shoot of a dead flower or something as i noticed the next scene was of a "dead" person. We also used one of our best filler shots in the trip scene.
8. "The title scene should have been clearer."
This originally was going to be changed but i actually didn't get round to doing it and it slipped my mind. Im not sure about other people but i asked around 10 people if they could read it and only 1 said it was hard so it would have been changed but it slipped my mind.
9. "I liked the editing."
This re assured me and made me feel good about myself. I think that this will make me want to improve and show people what I can do in other styles which I'm looking forward to, possibly my end of year task.
These were the questions aimed towards me I feel. There are some ones for the producer but I'll let them explain about that in their visual diaries.
This advice and criticism will help me become better at editing and I am looking. To make some videos in my own time as I enjoyed this so much.
