a) How did the Tropical Cyclone Debbie form?

For a cyclone to form, the ocean must be above 26.5 degrees, from that water, the warm, moist air rises, causing an area with low air pressure. Air from surrounding areas with higher air pressure pushes into the low pressure area, that air now becomes warm, moist and rises. As warm air continues to rise, the surrounding air swirls in to take its place. The warm, moist air rises and cools off, the water in the air forms clouds, that whole system of clouds, wind and spinning grows, fed by the oceans heat, and water evaporating from the surface.

As the storm system rotates faster and faster, an eye forms in the center. It is very calm and clear in the eye, with very low air pressure. Higher pressure air from above flows down into the eye. Storms that form north of the equator spin counterclockwise. Storms south of the equator spin clockwise, this difference is because of Earth's rotation on its axis.

Economics:
Economically, Cyclone Debbie has mostly harmed the coal/mine and crop industry. Coal exports will potentially decrease by $1.5 billion from cyclone Debbie, as more than 22 mines were forced to stop their production line, while roads and ports were shut down. The energy analysts IHS said that about 10 million tonnes of coal production was lost as buyers went elsewhere. It will also be hard to reach the mines, due to flood pitts and the roads being impossible to drive over.

Crops have been flattened and unable to be sold. For example, Cyclone Debbie has flattened and damaged the sugarcane crop in Burdekin region, resulting in the products number reducing, this causes the price to rise. The parts of Queensland impacted by Cyclone Debbie over all, produces more than $1 billion worth of agricultural crops per year. Queensland's sugar, tomato and capsicum production particularly went down. given near-term harvesting dates.

Quote: "At this early stage, it’s clear severe damage has been inflicted on vegetable and fruit crops in the Bowen and Mackay areas, as well as considerable damage to this year’s sugar crop, which was due to be harvested in May,” said Commonwealth Bank senior economist John Peters.

Socially:
Due to the destructive rain and wind that Cyclone Debbie brought, socially it has caused: people missing, crops being wiped out (causing low food supplies) and the destruction of buildings.

Although a lot of people experienced terrifying experiences from Cyclone Debbie, one of the most saddest thing about Cyclones Debbie is is the amount of people dead or missing. Three men remain missing across Queensland after Cyclone Debbie and its aftermath swept through the state. One man in his 60s who went bushwalking at Lamington National Park, 50-year-old Mondure man David Heidemann and 58-year-old John Frost from Mount Pleasant in Mackay.

The people who have sadly lost their lives in the flood are Nelson Raebel, 77, from Eagleby — caught in flood water in the southeast, Matthew Roser, 46, from South Murwillumbah — died from a heart attack on Friday after flooding flooded his home, Marc Austin, age 47, died in his flooded caravan after Murwillumbah went under, and a German tourist was killed in a head-on collision near Proserpine

Lots of homes have been flooded or torn apart from Cyclone Debbie. Many people have been asked to evacuate their homes in advance, so that didn't happen to them. The area that they mainly told to evacuate was in the Gold Coast, Logan and Beenleigh.

Cyclones Debbie’s destructive wind and rain has flattened and flooded many crops across Queensland. Canegrowers around Proserpine and Mackay, and the horticulture industry at Bowen — including tomato, capsicum and eggplant producers, have had the hardest hit. The Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) said early figures show actual crop damage to Bowen's vegetable industry is about $100 million, accounting for about 20 per cent of the season's crop.

Environmentally:
Cyclone Debbie has been a harmful, yet helpful to the Great Barrier Reef. Just like other cyclones, Cyclone Debbie generated intense winds and destructive ocean swells that damage the delicate corals in the great barrier reef. But due to climate change, the rising of temperature has been bleaching, and stressing the coral, but Cyclone Debbie has brought cold weather, which cools the ocean temperature down, which brings relief to the reef.

The great barrier reef is an incredibly big, unlike other cyclones that pass through the Great Barrier Reef, Cyclone Debbie spent quite a long time crossing the Great Barrier Reef.
