1:The Giant Swing, found in Phra Nakon was recently renovated due to its poles growing rusty and old and had the swings itself taken away. It's previous use was as a religious event, built in the year 1784 by King Rama II. The ceremony was performed from 1784 until 1935 when it was discontinued for being seen as dangerous. This ceremony was performed by three males on the swing. Two held onto the poles on the side while the one in the middle had to hold onto the other two for balance, they then began swinging back and forth on this over 30m in height swing. The danger factor caused many men to die performing this ceremony and was abolished in 1935. The ceremony, known as the Triyampamai ceremony, derived from two Hindu chants. Nowadays, The Giant Swing is used as an attraction and was suggested as a future UNESCO world heritage site.

2(Feedback):What I managed to get from this trip was a lot of details as to how Rattanakosin was formed and the history of different thai landmarks. While going through the exhibitions, we were shown much of how Rattanakosin built itself up from the fall of Ayutthaya and their culture and structures. Things such as how the women police at night had to always roam around with a light, if it went out, they had to yell for help until somebody came to light their lantern for them. Culture such as Kon and the famous Hanuman play, along with their different festivals. Exploring the different thai landmarks taught me many things about what they were and why these things existed. One temple was used as a crematory for King Rama 8's ashes while The Giant Swing was used as a religious event for thais. All around I was very pleased with the whole trip, there was much for me to learn and the entertainment factor never slipped up for a second. I give it a light 10 to a strong 9, very good.

This picture is a view of the Golden Mountain (วัดสระเกศ), which was taken at the top floor of the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall. The Golden Mountain's origins was built during the reign of King Rama III. He decided to build a chedi (เจดี), that eventually collapsed because of Thailand's soft soil. After a period of time, the collapsed structure turned into the shape of a mountain, hence the name, Golden "Mountain". Eventually, the structure underwent major renovations, until what it is now, an 80 meters tall structure. Wat Sraket is a well-known landmark and requires some 300 steps to get to the top. The temple hosts an annual festival for Loy-kratong during November.

Feedback:
From this trip, I learned about the old traditions of Thailand and the history of how Rattanakosin came to be. I enjoyed the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, and being able to tour/walk around Loha Prasat, Wat Suthat, and the overall experience.

This is the rattanakosin exhibition, exhibiting the past of Rattanakosin thailand, and some major events that took place out of Rattanakosin. The Rattanakosin exhibition the traditions of women and the advancements in technology, and also some agricultural advancements. One of the other things not that relevant to the change of history but it was one way to tell stories and entertain, were shadow puppets and regular puppets. The part with the women's traditions of performing daily tasks were forbidden of guys, since it is portraying girls' tradition, but we got to go in because the museum allowed.

Feedback
The Rattanakosin exhibition showed that the Thai culture changes over time, but up to this day the culture is still preserved. The methods of working in the past was also hard but nowadays it is interesting to know how people did things, for instance, farming, people did ways with ploughs and animals, but back then they did it with hoes, lane by lane, and they had to plant seeds by hand, then they would advance to ploughs pulled by cattle and horses, then advance further to tractors and combiners. The puppets were often used to tell stories and entertain, there were two types shadow puppets regular puppets, they also had khong to tell stories, shadow puppets had a person per puppet and they would dance and perform the show as well even though sometimes the audience can't see them they still do it for traditional reasons. The regular puppet shows, had people directing a puppet with individual limbs, unlike shadow puppetry which is held by one and had no individual movement. Khong required actors or dancers who had training with the matter to act specific characters such as, demons, monkeys, and humans.

1. This picture was taken in the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall. The exhibition hall is based around the history of Thailand in the Rattanakosin Era, which showcased politics, traditions, entertainment, and miscellaneous information. The picture itself is a painting commissioned in honor of the 60th anniversary of King Rama IX's reign. The painting depicts modern day Thailand and on older Thailand meshed together in our unique style.

FEEDBACK:
Although I forgot a lot about the temples, what really stuck with me was the exhibition hall. There was a lot to learn there, and the presentation could have been very boring too, but the exhibits were designed in a unique way that made it engaging for the most part. We learned a lot about Rattanokosin history and also about things like traditions in the palace and entertainment like kohn dancing. I also heard that we were supposed to visit another temple, but we didn't have enough time, which is probably a time management problem, which might have been because we get to choose where we ate lunch.
