(See example during collab). 7 minutes to write paragraph / story / brainstorm page and then read to partner / group / class with a focus, eg - fluency or tone. Can record their voices reading and listen back. Give peer to peer evaluation or own feedback.

Teacher rolls 2, 3, 4 dice to reveal pictures / actions. Students can create a quick 5 mins narrative involving the characters or action shown on the cubes. Students can create a “word blast” using their 5 senses to describe 1 of the pictures or characters.

Students receive an envelope with a black and white picture inside it. 5 mins to describe what is happening, why, who are the characters etc. Underline your favourite word choice that has impact. Partner read, listen and respond with an open question to develop writers creativity quickly.

Students write any connection they have to the prompt highlighting 2 words that have an action associated with it. Be willing to share with small group reading their responses but only using their action for their 2 chosen words. Can the listeners comprehend and work out the missing words?

Vocabulary Treasure Hunt

Students skim and scan the modelled text for words that they find interesting or words that they don't know the meaning of and create a treasure hunt for these words. Students can create a hard copy version or you can guide them to create a digital one using either...

Book creator

Students can write a riddle, clue or definition for their chosen word and their partner needs to guess what the word is. They then flick to the next page and it has the answer. Students can skim through the text to try and find the correct word.

Keynote

Same concept as Book Creator but using Keynote to create the treasure hunt

QR codes

Students will work in groups to choose their words from the text and write clues or definitions on a piece of paper for their word. They will then generate a QR code with that clue or definition and share them with another group who will try and link the clues or definitions to one of the words in the modelled text.

AI generated pictures

Using Canva and your free education account use AI to generate images that students have described using adjectives and descriptive language. Students will be given a name of a place and create a couple of sentences to describe that place ensuring they use descriptive language. Students will the edit and proof read their work and send it to you to generate their own picture of their setting using AI in Canva. This can also be used for character descriptions!

Fill in the blanks

Students receive our modelled text but there are certain words missing throughout the text. Students need to use their understanding of the text to fill in the blanks with a word of their choosing to make the sentence make sense and more interesting for the reader.
