         <description><![CDATA[<div>Columbus' 2nd voyage he settles the first Spanish colony of La Isabela in Hispaniola (Modern day DR and Haiti) Several hundred Taino are sent as slaves to Spain, kicking off the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Spain has been partaking in the trade of slaves for many years prior, specifically non Christians but never in the New World and the legality of these slaves is questionable. Many priests were against the enslavement of people who had not intentionally rejected Christ and favored conversion.</div>]]></description>
