Frederick Douglass was an escaped slave that became free and lectured against the cruelty of slavery. He was one of the main leaders of the Abolitionist Reform Movement meant to end slavery once and for all.
He also participated in the Underground railroad, a trail of safe houses and places were slaves can be safe. These places were owned by people who cared for the well being of slaves and got them to free countries of anti-slave states.

Women's Rights were very disputed between the government, men, and women.
Many people thought that women were only meant to do chores and take care of the children in their house. Women started to protest and fight for their rights to be equal as men.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the more famous women to attend a convention in Seneca Falls, New York, that started the first movement for women's rights. It was named "The Declaration of Sentiments" and was a protest for women's right and also had a format like the famous document "The Declaration of Independence."
