After France's heavy involvement in the American revolution and the King’s and Queen’s excessive spending, the country was left practically bankrupt. Environmental factors also lead to this too, things such as poor harvests, illnesseed, increasing bread prices and high taxes for the extremely poor. All of this led to riots and strikes.
